At first try to get the password. Then sign in and go to Messenger - Preferences - Archieve. In the first field, check on "Yes, Save all of my messages'. Now his all chat sessions will be saved. U can read them by going to Contacts - Message Archive. If u cant get the password, then do all these when he's signed in but not in front of computer.
Good Luck...

Depends on whether you have your kids password or not. If you do, log onto messenger using his / her id, and turn on the option for archiving messages. You can then read all the conversations by subsequently logging on.
Or else, you can install a keylogging software. This is a kind of spyware, so be careful which one you install - do some research on google. These programs record all the keystrokes, and save them on a log file. Once your kid is through with the computer, you can open the log file and check. However, this will only give one sided communication i.e. what has been typed at your end.

You can set up Yahoo! Messenger to log conversations to a file. Just go under Preferences and click on Archive and make sure "Yes, Save all of my messages" is selected.
Another way to see what she is typing is by downloading a key logger software program. This program will record all the key strokes made from the keyboard and store them in a file for you to view. CNET recommends a program called System Surveillance Pro 4.2.0.2. You can download it here http://www.download.com/System-Surveillance-Pro/3000-2162_4-10541591.html

Stand behind him and watch what he types. If you know his password you can go into preferences and tick save my conversations and go back when he is finished and open them and see.

I think it's all private unless you're the person that owns the account.
You see, police can only do it when they contact the messagner company.
