do you think that vioce recognition softwares will someday replace humans in terms of doing transcription jobs?

I work at home as a transcriptionist and have done so for 9 years. I make on average $500-600 a week, which is great considering I don't have to pay for gas, daycare, etc. It is the ideal job, especially if you are a mom. Most companies pay by the line, so your paycheck can vary depending on how much work you are able to type. Despite popular opinion, it is still a great career to get in to because, even though companies are using speech recognition equipment, it is not fool-proof. My company has been using that equipment for 3 years and the program still hasn't gotten used to the doctors voices. We still have to make corrections to ALL of the reports that come through.

Not much of a career path, but it is good work. However, many medical transcription jobs are being outsourced to India. They are working while doctors sleep, so the doctors get their transcription back the next morning rather than 2-3 days later.

Best wishes.

It can be a good career. And in some cases can be a work at home job.
You need to know how to type.
You need to know medical terminology.
You need to know how to keep your mouth shut about what you hear and type. Otherwise you can get in a lot of trouble due to HIPPA
