The first one was sailor moon.it's really classic and it'snot one of the best out there definitely.
Basically,it's like a few gals who transform into sailor soldiers and save the world.one interesting thing to note is that a lot of the animes out there all have transformations which sailor moon started the trend. likewedding peach,etc... just that they change into different costumes with different transformation process.

I suppose it was Voltron, though I don't know if Voltron is even anime or not. I was a little kid then. Had all the toys! I can't recall really seeing anything resembling anime until I was in college and started watching Toonami on Cartoon Network. There I was introduced to Gundam Wing and Dragonball Z at about the same time.
I have a soft spot for Gundam Wing, even if it was a little silly how powerful they were. I still like the Dragonball franchise though. Love watching it, love reading it. Goku is my hero.

The first Anime I saw was Dragonball Z...admittedly it is not one of the best there is...but at the time...well, I'll explain the best I can...
Dragonball Z is essentially the story of a man named Son Goku, his family and friends who must repeatedly defend the Earth from immensely powerful and evil forces who are bent on destroying this little blue planet to either conquer it, kill Goku or in the hopes to take the legendary dragonballs and make their wishes come true...
Why I like it? Well, there's a bit of a story to that...
To sum it up:
I was young and depressed. I randomly flicked through channels. Came across DBZ. Watched an episode. I wanted to see some more. It kept me going and got me through my depression when as a result of watching it, it led me to rekindle my passion for drawing as I attempted to copy the manga drawing style...
Needless to say, I am a fairly accomplished art student (expectantly awaiting to be soon crowned with the title of artist) who owes coming this far to one seemingly insignificant Anime that ended up doing so much more than just entertain...

Star Blazers. It was about the planet earth being attacked by aliens. The main characters traveled in space in a ship called the Argo. It had an awesome weapon called the Wave Motion Gun which was eqivalent to the Death Star on Star Wars. It too could destroy a planet if it had too.

Voltron, Thundercats, Sailor Moon... lots of things, really. But I think the first anime I watched where I actually thought of it as different from American cartoons was actually Pokemon, believe it or not! That fandom was where I first learned the word "anime", and discovered fanfiction and whatnot. Ah, Kojiro-kun, you have changed my life forever. XD

The first anime I saw was either Speed Racer or MegaMan. I have to go with MegaMan, because I remember more about it. Also, I still remember the opening theme music. "Super Fighting Robot, MegaMan! Super Fighting Robot, MegaMan!! Super Fighting Robot, MegaMan!!! Fighting To Saaaave.... The World!!! (echoes)" MegaMega, YeahYeah!

My friend introduced them to me and tried getting me on everythg... First was Prince of Tennis (awesome tennis anime of unbelievable moves and awesome cause I love everythg tennis) and then Great Teacher Onizuka ( wow! a teacher who's kinda a perv. but one of the wisest teachers with the best advice despite his childish nature). and then Fruits and Basket (It's about a cursed japanese family that turn into animals whenever touched by the opposite gender so as to prevent them from finding love outside of the family and a young girl who finds her way into their home and hearts... ) Watched all three within a month (marathons!!!) and loved each of them and for different reasons...
