Thanks, I'm in the middle of writing a passage where my main character his getting ready to leave, and he's tightening the (blank) too hard...Thanks so much! I looked up "girth" but it didn't seem right, but "cinching" the "girth" will do very muchly! Thanks! I'm happier than a jay-bird!

girth strap is the strap that hold the saddle to the underside of the horse . its a wide cloth or cord or neopream that snug.s against the horses belly . if you tighten it to tight you can cause the horse much discomfort . i snugged one up to tight and she ended up laying down on me . pinning my leg under her . not a fun place to be .

The girth if you ride english, the cinch if you're western...it holds the saddle on the horses back in the proper place. Be sure to tighten it before you get on!

It is called a cinch. That is what goes under the horses belly.

If it is a Western saddle, you would be more accurate to just say," as he was cinching up" If it English style, he would be "tightening the girth"..English=http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-18,GGGL:en&q=english%20tack&sa=N&tab=wi
