I vote for Florida. I moved here 16 yrs ago with my 2 children. I read a book called "PLACES RATED" or something like that. It was a big yellow book (paperback) It compared cost of living, education, etc. I don't know about MS as I have never lived there. The schools here are good and bad, so check them out first. I know my kids were a few grades ahead academically when we moved here. I had to transfer them into a magnet school. Lots of beaches to choose from, you can play tourist on any given day in Orlando ($$$$ pricey).
Check out this site, maybe it will help.. http://www.bestplaces.net/
Best of Luck. (also, call someone who lives in the city first if you can. They can give you a heads up on neighborhoods, rental property prices. I can help only for Pinellas and Orange County.(and some surronding areas)

Depends on where you're coming from. I lived in Florida for a year, and didn't care for it a whole lot. But it is a very diverse state, and so it varies greatly by location. For me it was a bit of a culture shock and a let down because I was coming from California. I couldn't handle the every day rains in the summer, it was just too wierd. The humidity can also get pretty bad if you're not used to it. But if you're already in the south, then it might be the change you're looking for. I would take into account cost of living vs. income. I was excited at how cheap rent was in Orlando until I realized that I was getting paid a lot less too. Then it didn't seem like such a great deal. But definently check it out for a few days before you move, and make sure you travel off the beaten path, because odds are that's what you're life there will really be like.

VERY different states ( the culture varies a lot in different areas also - take a few vacations before you make a commitment - it would seem that as a single mom with a daughter to support your main priority should be economic - job/cost of living )

a person below mentioned weather both states are in the hurricane zone ( no real danger compared to everyday things like traffic )

I'm from Florida,, so I have to go with that.. but seriously,, just not having STATE tax is an incentive,,no additional food tax, no vehicle inspections, no nonfood tax, great weather, beaches on each coast, lots of outside activities. Gambling with casinos, horses, dogs. Family activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, water sports. Great school systems, still a progressive state, yet conventional values. Plus,, all the oranges you could ever want.. we have better looking lawns too!.....

I don't think you should move to Fl. There are way to many weather problems there. Yes, it is beautiful but is it worth risking your life? I am new to this answering questions thing so it I did something wrong then I am sorry. Mississippi is also very beautiful though.

I stay in south Mississippi, approximately half-hour from the coast. i in my view like it right here, i will college at USM, and Hattiesburg is a great place. many people have unlucky stereotypes approximately MS, and that i hate that, i'm no longer asserting that there are not people without tooth right here (they're everywhere), yet maximum of Mississippi extremely is a delightful place to stay.
