Why do people say that?

I say "god bless you" It is a habit learned from others.
I think it was originally done because it was thought the soul might be sneezed out and this was said to protect the person. If my memory serves me correctly.

I say it to anyone who sneezes. You say bless you because when someone sneezes when you are speaking it is a sign that you are telling the truth.

I either say gezundheit or blessings to you...
I was told that when you sneeze you blow out the goodness, so all that is left is evil, and when someone says bless you, it puts goog back into you. Personally, I'd be just fine without being blessed again!!! ;-)

Yes...I think that saying bless you when you heard someone sneeze came from an old wives tale that if you sneeze too hard your heart could stop and you could die....so why not send them out with speaking blessings over that person ....maybe in hopes that saying bless you might help them out in Heaven. .....I don't know maybe ...maybe not .

I say that. People also so God Bless You. I think it is polite and we could all use God's blessing. Just to get attention from the person who did it usually me his wife if I burp my husband will say bless you. I think it is funny even though I try not to burp real loud with it I have good home tranning. We all don't want to seem like a pigs. LOL Even though, in some countries it is disrespectful not to burp after the meal. When you burp after the meal it shows respect and that you liked the meal.

I do, I was just taught to.
I was told, by a friend, when I was younger, that when you sneeze, you half die for a second, and the devil jumps into your body, so you have to bless them to get him out. haha....it's so stupid, but for some reason, that thought always comes to mind when I hear someone sneeze, even though I KNOW better now that I am an adult, but I always think, well...I should do it anyways...I'm such a spaz.

Yes! The reason goes back a long time ago. When a person sneezed it was thought that evil was coming out of them.

Every time you sneeze you lose a second of your life...So God Bless You would be in order incase it's there last second.

there are so many stories of why people say bless you.
the one i like goes:
back when the black plague was sweeping across europe the first signs that you had it was sneezing. then you knew you would get it and die. so when people heard you sneeze they say "god bless you". so you wont die.

Watch out when u sneezes and don't even think of doing it... if u did, it's too late , your love one is having sex with someone else other than you.
