First of all, it speaks volumes about the Democratic Party that this speech was given by a Democrat at the 2004 Republican Convention, instead of the 2004 Democratic Convention. Secondly, I don't know any people who said every Democrat is not up to defending this country's best interest, but most hat party's office holders are. There are exceptions. As I pointed out earlier, the first Congressional Resolution signed into law that called for regime change in Iraq, and accused Sadaam Hussein of having WMD's was signed into law on October 31, 1998 by President Bill Clinton. Secondly Sen. Joseph Lieberman's staunch support for the Iraq war was the main reason he lost his party's primary earlier this year. The kind of thinking Zell Miller referred to is something I've seen in the 25-30 years I've been observing politics, and is very common among the far left, most of whom are Democrats. It must also be noted that most of the people who were against the Iraq War for reasons that proved accurate were right wing Republicans like Pat Buchanan, Robert Novak, and myself. However I think most Democrats (including my current Congressman Henry Waxman) starting opposing the war because Bush was running it. If Bush had chosen to end Bill Clinton's bombing campaign against Iraq, and instead had chosen to work with Sadaam Hussein, he likely would have been lambasted by the far left for "propping up a ruthless dictator", which is rhetoric the far left has used for many many years. When it comes to these irrational haters Bush is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. They don't deserve to control either house of Congress, yet anyone who votes for a Democrat is voting to do just that. I hope this country is not that stupid.

And im glad that some dems recognize that we need this war to save 1000's in the future. This country and our ppl were devastated when 9/11 happened correct? If we were to not attack this shows how weak we are. We are still weak b/c our Army is held back by liberals who will not allow us to just finish off their job. War is cruel, but necessary when dealing with such ppl, so you have to be cruel to win. Losing lives sucks, but in the end it saves lives. Libs and Dems are just prolonging the inevitable (most dems). Do not finish this war, do not finish off our enemy with a large and strong hit, we look weak once again (like Vietnam when libs held us back). America is only defeated by themselves. And those young men and women are dying and alot of ppl in this country dont even support what they are doing, they deserve more than this countries pity, they deserve your support.

The Dem party as a whole I think will do absolutely anything to get votes, thats why they fight to keep our borders open b/c they know the "immigrants" will mostly vote for them. They are handing our country over on a silver platter. Lets just give them the keys to the front door, to the guys who want us dead. But some Dems have good ideas and make good points. I like McCain at times...

I was glad to hear a non-partisaned response to threats facing America. I am chagrined to hear McCain's stance on our treatment of captured threats to America. I believe these are voices that stand out in our highly divided political climate. Neither of these voices condemns the war effort the way the leaders of the Democratic party do. To listen to the Dem leaders speak, you'd think America is the source of the Gulags, the torture chambers, the genocides around the world. There is no reality or responsibility in the Democratic party, they can't even come up with a reasonable plan for a course of action to the voters on any topic. All this boils down to a simple two word charge. (No Credibility)

Most people (about 3/4 of the American population) do not support the war. Are all of us "chickenhawks"?
The war has been a victory for Sunnis and thus for Al-Qaida if you haven't noticed.
Being mislead about the war sure is irritating. And the new fear tactic campaign they will air this weekend will be blown way out of proportion with statements by Bin Laden from several years ago.

Wow! That Nazi is nuts.

"There is but one man to whom I am willing to entrust their future and that man's name is George W. Bush."
This guy is Nuckin Futz.

"Where is the bi-partisanship in this country when we need it most? "
Why doesn't he ask Bush?

"But don't waste your breath telling that to the leaders of my Party today. In their warped way of thinking America is the problem, not the solution."

No one - in the Democratic party - thinks that America is the problem.
We think the liars, pedophiles and Neo-Cons are the problem.

The payoffs are the problem.
Big Oil is the problem.
Global warming is the problem.
Build up of Nuclear arms is the problem.
World hunger is the problem.
The shrinking middle class is the problem.
The same minimum wage for 6 yrs is the problem.

NOT FINDING OSAMA BIN LADEN IS THE PROBLEM!

This isn't about 9/11, it never was.
We wanted Osama dead, not captured.
Why cant the Republicans deliver on their promises????????

I must say that you have impressed me by not just going into hyperbole, it's nice to find a dem with some sense. First of, the majority of the dems voted for the war. However, they're the ones that want to create another Vietnam by forcing us to leave before the job is done. Not all dems want this, but a lot more do than the 'pubs. Secondly, McCain is a real wishy-washy guy, I don't care for him too much. As for the dem party, I think they have let the ultra left wingers like Dean, Kerry, Clinton, and Kennedy take over the party so completely that the regular Joe thinks that all dems are like that. It's really hurting them, and they really need to move back toward the center.
BTW, all politicians stink, in my view, it's just that I support the principles that the 'pubs are *supposed* to represent. Thanks for an intelligent question.

Democrats have been saying for some time that the war is a mistake ,as though we,re playing hop-scotch and if you think you made a mistake you get to do it over.
If that's how we "support the war" then we ,most surely ,will lose.
For Wc basebal below.----You talk too much & say too little, use the logic of a 3rd grade child, and you lie like a second rate politician.

yeah i seen your precious little speech there and i think he is just a poser democrat because he is a hard core republican. just another example of feeding the propoganda machine. republicans like to think they are the defenders of democracy but they are the first to take away liberties they choose to be democratic when the situation suits them. in a true democracy you don't pick and choose when to be democratic. P.S. john Mccain opposes the war because he actually knows what it is like to fight in a war i noticed all republicans that like to send 19 year old men into war never fought in a war themselves. your precious vice president was the mastermind behind this war yet when his name came up in the draft he dodged the draft five times oh yeah he's a liberator alright. get real.

I supported the CIA when they called for the Rangers in Tora Bora, I still do not understand why busting Sadam suddenly took Center Stage, we could have killed him.

I had some respect for McCain when he stood up against torture, then he folded like a cheap suit. Gave King Shurb his absolute right to detain without representation, deny right to a lawyer, imprison without charges, torture.........ANYONE King Bush declares an enemy or potential terrorist.

And the Big Court is still silent......Wow, first the Geneva Convention tinkering, now this? And still the big court is Moot.

Either bend over or VOTE

Republicans r once again out with a scare tactic campaign.
Repulicans r lowering gas prices just before the next election.
With the voting machines this election is fixed, just like 2000 and 2004-=--------only the president will still be in office with his clones. Everyone knows Florida was cheated of votes in 2000, Ohio in 2004!!!! dictatorship?....
