Your assumption is that Divinity thinks like a human and judges like a human. This is an arrogant assumption.
What if Divinity is so far removed from what humanity believes that belief in Divinity or not does not matter to Divinity?
Does a virus or a bacterium have any true concept of the human body it invades? Would it understand how what a human might think or feel? Bacteria and Humanity are a lot closer to each other than either is to Divinity.
Belief systems are not based upon logic. Most are learned before the logical portions of the mind are functional. Do not try to make logical sense out of the beliefs of humans.

God is an all encompassing word for many different people. I myself believe in something bigger than myself, but I don't know what or who it is. They say children are born with an inherent God-sense, all built in. Maybe they are that way because they were closer to a concept of God more recently than us who are older.
I believe that we do go to a different plane when we pass, because we are energy, and you can't destroy it, it just changes to a different form, and then we go somewhere else or come back to live again as a different person. We are here to learn, I believe that knowledge and love is why we are here.
If an athiest doesn't believe in God, I don't think that affects their chances of going to the next level or "heaven" and I also don't think that if you're really bad you go to the same place as the good souls. Maybe you just don't get to go anywhere when you leave here. Maybe the creator is a pool of souls who donated their energy to the wonderful pool of "God" as an ultimate gift of giving back to reach the last and final plane.
I honestly think heaven is whatever you want it to be.

Your , or for that matter, the Believer`s approach is TopDown. The atheist`s approach is Bottom up.Both have to go through the same distance , either way. Both will meet somewhere in between. At that time you two can exchange the findings and continue further in the respective paths.
You are going "up" believing in something that others said exists. The Atheist is coming down , not finding it there up .

Some how our lives re-manifest by either what legacy we left behind, traditions we pass on or even if one changed the life of another in some way by an enlightening statement they made (sometimes without realizing it)
If they're is no God then we'll have great memories in the end or turn our backs on a bad memory. It's a simple mathematical problem (God?)
I think there is a balance
What more peaceful? A bad memory or A good lasting one

Blind belief does affect our attitude to life and its experience. So it is not about a safety after death that atheists refuse to belief.
On the other hand, those who believe , mostly do not want some trouble with an unknown, having enough from known ones !
Either way it does not matter, because, unless a person experiences it belief is just another story to the mind, perhaps offering some sense of security !

Well coming from a baptist background, theres more to it than just believing in God to make the whole afterlife thing work. I'm not a scholar or anything but believing "just because" or "just in case" doesnt really work. Most of the whole religion thing is based on faith and following a certain set of guidelines. Then theres the forgiveness aspect of it all. To be ushered into heaven (at leas from a christian standpoint) you need to ask for forgiveness of your sins and that doesnt seem like something someone who is on the fence about the whole God issue would be able to do...

There's much more wrong with accepting things on faith [God, in this case] than the afterlife gamble. Accepting & holding contradictions is a receipee for mental spegetti. There are many things that are creeping in on faith in our culture that can destroy life.
Being an atheist is a component of my make up; but not the definition of who I am. Put another way, atheism is a negative definition: this is what I am not. This is a poor way to understand the ideas that anybody holds.

I'll give you $1000 if you believe that the Orion Nebula is composed primarily of cotton candy. You have to really believe it, though, not just say you believe it - you must pass a polygraph test to make sure.
There's no way to prove it, one way or the other. Sure, there's an overwhelming body of scientific evidence which suggests that my hypothesis is not only incorrect, but downright silly; but that's not the same as proof, right?
And do you really gain anything by believing it's made of stars and intergalactic dust? Whereas by believing it's cotton candy, you get a thousand bucks! So what do you have to lose? Besides your dignity, I mean.

there are two reasons why this is not feasible. firstly which god do we believe in? every religion has an equal chance of being true. every believer claims their religion is the right one, and it would be quiet unfeasible to worship a god like huitzilopochtli, as this would mean ripping the living hearts out of sacrificial victims and shoving cactus spines through my genitals. but this god is as likely to exist as any other god, the myths and the holy inscriptions of the Aztecs say he does, is this not the same sort of proof that Christians offer? "it says it in the bible so it must be true". secondly, if i had a pet dog and just left it to feed itself, never took it to the vet, let it get sick, and promised to beat it for eternity if it didn't wag its tail and act happy every time i walked through the door would i be an upright and moral person. if there is a god who is all powerful and allows such misery, cruelty and injustice to exist in its creation it doesn't deserve any worship, that's another thing why would a god want us bowing and groveling before it, it can do anything it wants yet demands our praise. sounds like an irresponsible spoilt brat to me. no, if I'm wrong I'll live eternally in torment with only my moral superiority to that god to comfort me.

You believe in God so strongly, you can't even ask this question without prejudice. You mention that an atheist might as well believe in God.....well, no, they don't ever believe in God. You also mentioned that if the atheist was wrong, and there is God..... Well you just said before that he believed in God and now you are saying he is wrong and "still believes" in God? You don't know what you are asking, don't know about atheist, obviously, so what's your point??????????

You are missing something in your question. I think the best thing for you to ask a good Atheist question would be to attend an atheist mass.
I can see that you have not read the part of the Bible that indicates that God will ignore you at the time of salvation, if you ignore him now.
