To follow up on my previous post. I dont believe they did it for any potential gain, there would be none. But it does seem to me to be quite negligent. I have the newspaper article in front of me, and if the mother of his son hadn't called me and told me first, and I happened to pick up this paper, I kid you not, i would have either puked or had a heart attack. (It mentions that he was speaking when the first responders arrived on the scene.... of course "not for long"...as his skull was fractured.
As far as his girlfriend goes, I honestly believe she was an innocent victim of "his" lie. She wasn't lying, but relaying what she believed to be true. However, they did return to me (finally) his wallet which includes his birth certificate, his social insurance card, bank card, HEALTH CARD. i find it hard to believe that if a true effort was put forth, that they would have had too hard a time putting the puzzle together. Was it negligent to take the word of somone who knew him for 7mos?

If they finally returned his wallet, I guess it means that they looked into what they had. His wallet held most every avenue they could inspect.
I'm still wondering how the accident happened. Did they tell you?
Did someone else hit him? There's still questions. But, first is first, take care of your nephew & you.

You need to let the anger go. Nothing can change anything from this point forward.

My teenage daughter (17) was in a car accident. They found her unconscious & not breathing. The kids with her, didn't give her name to the police. The car they were in was registered to me, her mother.

The report was made at 10:47 P.M.

I got a phone call from a kid at 12:15 A.M

When I got to the hospital, I asked the hospital why no one had contacted me since she was a minor. The detective there said they didn't know who she was. I asked why they didn't run the license plate? He said they "finally" did and that is how they got a hold of me. I corrected him telling him that a kid contacted me and that a police officer never did.

My daughter suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, was in a coma for 3 months and was only given a 1% chance of survival.

Her hospital bracelet said..."Jane Doe"

You would think that with her being a minor they would have went thru hell and high water to find her parents. All I could think of was...."what if she had died alone?" NIGHTMARISH.

In your brother's case, as bad as it was...they are not at fault. The media doesn't name names out of respect for the surviving family.

Adults are allowed to "disappear" if they so choose to and it sounds like that is what your brother did. I'm sorry for your loss but truly think you need to let it go. You got your brother's body and was able to give him the proper burial.

That's what they had to go on. The police have too many other criminals to catch and investigate to try to track down the family members of someone who died accidentally. He did not have any information on him regarding his family so they had nothing to start with. After his girlfriend declared that he told her he was the only one, that is where it ended. The police cannot assume that because he was at a young age, that he definitely had family. What if he were an only child and his parents had been killed in a traffic accident? If they tried searching for family members they would still be looking. Should they take out an ad in the newspaper? You should be mad at your brother for alienating his family, not anyone else.
