It has been observed in all the societies that most of the people feel pride with some of their resouces like wealth, education, sports, lands and things like these. But these are the temporary things on which they feel pride and when you pride negatively it takes you towards sham.
So we can say pride come first and then shame but it all depends upon human bevaior, is it positive or negative. good luck.

If you take evolution into account, pride definitely came first because it is much more wildly encountered in the animal world and is associated with physical attributes and self-confidence (lion's mane, peacock's tail etc..). Shame seems to be completely confined to primates, and even there it's primarily humans' domain.

They seem to me to be two aspects of the same psychological reality. Man is the only animal that is self-conscious. Part of being human means we care about whether we are judged to be decent and honorable or not, whether we feel dignified, or look ridiculous, etc... Without that propensity of human nature to attach an importance to a sense of value about ourselves, neither shame nor pride would be possible.

This is a typical Chicken or egg first riddle. You take a stand and you can justify your view. And you may be right also.
In my view these emotiional characteristics are always there in human mind. One or the other keep coming up . Like the waves of the ocean. Which wave was the first. From your angle you can decide it from the time you started observing the waves. , That is from your standpoint.

Pride has to come before a fall - one cannot be shamed if one has no pride, witness politicians and other weasels.
