Bush's stats are just mediocre.. For the so called once in a lifetime running back... YEAH RIGHT.. Maybe being back in the pac 10 playing against lowsy defenses he would be good..

I have always said this. Bush benefited from having great surrounding players and playing HORRIBLE teams (especially defensively). He is maybe 7th in the rookie of the year voting, maybe lower. Maroney, Jones-Drew, and D. Williams are better running backs, much better. He is awful at the RB position. He was never a true RB. He cant handle the punishment of carrying the ball 20-25 times a game. He also doesnt have the ability to break tackles and defenses are just to fast for him to get outside often. He was thought of to be the next Gale Sayers or Marshall Faulk, LoL yeah right.

In his defense, he is a very good wide receiver where he can get into the open field and use his speed to his advantage. He'd never make a good #1 option but as a #2 or #3 he has alot of potential. He needs to focus on being a WR rather than RB b/c he'll never be good enough at RB to be a #1 back.

Bush's statline:

65 carries - 196 yds - 3 ypc - 0 TD
38 rec. - 285 yds - 0 TD

0, yes 0 offensive TD.

Even Michael Robinson, a QB converted to an RB this season, is better at that position that Reggie Bush.

Rookie of the Year IMO in this order -

1.) Mark Anderson (Bears, DE) 6.5 sacks, 2 FF
2.) Marques Colston (Saints, WR/TE) 27 rec. 414 yds 4 TD
3.) Lawrence Maroney (NE, RB) 78 car. 332 yds 3 TD
4.) Bruce Gradkowski (QB, TB) 83.8 rating, 429 yds 58% 4 TD 1 INT, led Bucs over Bengals, should have won both starts.
5.) Matt Leinart (Ari., QB.) 84.4 rating, 539 yds, 60.5%, 4 TD 2 INT, shouldve beaten Bears, will move up in standings.
6.) Tamba Hali (KC, DE) 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks
7.) THEN Reggie Bush......

People think Reggie Bush is the MJ of football....he is so overrated!!! the only reason why he had such a good career at USC is because of the team he was playing on!! and the teams he played against!!!...look at the Rose Bowl last year!!! Leinart had a better game than he did!!! Reggie Bush is also not an everydown back like other RB's in the league he takes plays off!! just like M. Williams of Houston!!! I think he is overrated!! Leinart or Young should of been 1st pick in the draft look at what they have done so far. Bush is going to be decent but he will NEVER live up to the hype!!!

Absolutely correct. The problem is he is good at a lot of things, but not great at any of them. He reminds me of Michael Vick. Vick was supposed to be the "future" of NFL quarterbacking. The problem was that he was never great at quarterbacking and he is not fit to be at another position, too small for runningback, and too short for wide receiver. Bush is too small to be an effective runner between the tackles and take on blocks, but his hands and speed are not good enough to be a consistent receiver. The media will hype him for the next couple of years until some other propaganda machine develops another useless top five draft pick. If I were the Saints, I would make him be a running back. I tell him that the only way he becomes a full time starter is by using the off season to gain some size, work on his blocking, and work on his vision behind the line.

For a rookie he is okay. But as of right now, he isn't having the rookie season Carnell Williams has had last year. I do not think he will be named Offensive Rookie of the year. His punt returning is incredible, no doubt, but he as a runningback is not doing so well. He only averages under 3 yards per carry.

But yet, he's a rookie, he is doing what everyone expects of him... well maybe not everything, but you have to remember Reggie Bush can also be used as a decoy, you saw the Falcons/Saints game a few weeks ago. All the Falcons D went after Reggie Bush on almost every play action, fake reverse and so on play. The D anticipates him too much.

I say he is perfectly rated.

It is too early to cast judgement on Reggie Bush. Here are rookie year stats of well known running backs. Some had a great rookie season and some not so great. It's doughful Reggie will get Rookie Of The Year, but give Reggie a year or so and he will SHINE!

Marcus Allen
rookie year 1982-- 9 games, 160 carries, 697 yards,4.4 average, TD's 11

Barry Sanders
rookie year 1989-- 15 games, 280 carries, 1470 yards, 5.2 average, TD's 14

Gale Sayers
rookie year 1965-- 14 games, 166 carries, 867 yards, 5.2 average, TD's 14

Shaun Alexander
rookie year 2000-- 16 games, 64 carries, 313 yards, 4.9 average, TD's 2

Bo Jackson
rookie year 1987-- 7 games, 81 carries, 554 yards, 6.8 average, TD's 4

Julius Jones
rookie year 2004-- 8 games, 197 carries, 819 yards, 4.2 average, TD's 7

Curtis Martin
rookie year 1995-- 16 games, 368 carries, 1487 yards, 4.0 average, TD's 14

Deuce McAllister
rookie year 2001-- 16 games, 16 carries, 91 yards, 5.7 average, TD's 1

Emmitt Smith
rookie year 1990-- 16 games, 241 carries, 937 yards, 3.9 average, TD's 11

Herschel Walker
rookie year 1986-- 16 games, 151 carries, 737 yards, 4.9 average, TD's 12

Christian Okoye
rookie year 1987-- 12 games, 157 carries, 660 yards, 4.2 average, TD's 3

Walter Payton
rookie year 1975-- 13 games, 196 carries, 679 yards, 3.5 average, TD's 7

It is possible that some of these players were also considered overrated and look how they turned out. Give Reggie some time and he will find a way.

G'day Jew Fro,

Thanks for your question.

Reggie Bush was being treated as a saviour by long suffering New Orleans Saints fans even being called the Messiah.

On his first game he carried it less than Deuce McAllister but the Saints won. His first touchdown in the NFL was against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 8 and won the Sainst the game.

His start has been OK but we should look at how he settles in before rushing to judgement.

Regards

He is good. Just having him on the team has other teams worried about him and that lets the other players make plays on his team. It seems like teams are trying to make sure he doesn't score a TD. And when he does start scoring and picks up the game better as hes getting use to the NFL, its going to pump up the saints more than what they already are with their record. He freezes the defense, even if its for a couple of seconds. And he makes teams worry about him. So yes. He is good. And will be even better as he picks up experience.

Are you kidding, He's gotta be a Rookie of the year Candidate how else are the Saints 5-1.

Trust he'll get the Saints in the Super Bowl before Matt Leihart will.

the media puts him on a high chair, making him to be the next Barry sanders. the problem with that is,he wont be .. there string him to thin..putting him on special teams kick offs ,punts,Rb,Wr. if the guy was planing on being the greatest Rb ever that dream is over.......his very talented but to say that hes going to change the game the way we know it today ...that's just plum dumb........and if Matt Leinart does as good as he has so far ,he will win rookie of the year................

Sean Payton is using him just like he intends to. He wants to use him as a decoy so everything else opens up. He will come in on 3rd down and be a flanker or a misderection man. Trust me he is part of the reason they are doing so well this year.
