No problem there...it's only the sound of the needle accessing data...if it goes on permanentely there is a problem...

There is not a potential problem at all...
It happens as the hard disk becomes old the friction between the head of the armature reading the data and the plates containing the data becomes prominent and thus one can hear the sound of hissing while accessing the data from the hard disk...

Well the disk in there is turning seven thousand times a minute, so it'll make some noise.

that the drive is working with some of the older drives this is normal. an escalation of noise is a sign of possible failure.

For desktops, that sound is normal. Usually, if it is always doing that, it is because your computer is old (Or overused). There is nothing wrong with that sound.
