Controlling dreams and remembering dreams are two different events.

Remembering dreams is relatively easy if you are serious enough. Keep a notebook by your bedside and record what you remember every time you wake and remember anything at all. The longer you do this the more you will remember.

Controlling what happens in a dream is part of a process called lucid dreaming. There really is very little know, but much speculation about this as a technique. Far too many claim to be experts and sell all kinds of special kits or workshop to teach this.

Even if everyone can have lucid dreams, not everyone will. There does seem to be a problem reported by people who lucid dream to the exclusion of "wild" dreaming: some start to forget their dreams. Check out the sites below:

As far as remembering goes, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with your REM cycle. Like you have to get a certain amount of sleep and that helps you remember. Also, writing them in a dream journal helps a lot if you can remember them right when you wake up. For the controlling, I'm not so sure if it's something everyone can do. I was actually having a conversation with some people in school the other day. They were saying that they heard if you think about what you want to dream about while falling asleep then you will dream of it. They also said that they had tried it and it hadn't worked. So I really think your best bet is to focus on exactly what you want to dream about before going to bed. I've tried this and for me it works really well. I typically don't remember my dreams because I am a very deep sleeper, but whenever I do remember they're always dreams about what I was thinking the previous night. They other answerer also brought up a good point, it would probably help to write about the dream that you want to have in a dream journal. The key is to keep your thoughts focused on the dream you want.

Hi..
The reason that there are so many lucid explanations to this questions is : because once you "know" you are dreaming in your dream, then you "HAVE CONTROL", of your dream.... You can do whatever you want to do, after you come to this realization (in the dream).... There have been a couple of times where I have realized in my dream I was dreaming.... I usually decide to start flying around, but if you want to do something besides fly around, you can do whatever you want after you are lucid dreaming.... You can even change your location/setting with your mind.....
>>>>>>>>>>>>
There are a number of techniques you can use :
*) Try setting a watch to go off every hour.... Throughout the day, when it goes off, ask yourself "Am I dreaming?".. Become aware of your surroundings... A good approach is to try to remember what you were doing 10 minutes ago... When you're awake, this is easy... When asleep, it's much more difficult..... When your watch goes off while you are dreaming, it may be enough to realize "Hey, I'm dreaming"..
*) Possibly in combination with the above, try looking at your hands frequently... I know this sounds strange, but I guess for whatever reason, in a dream, hands don't look like they should, and is usually a pretty good give-away that you're dreaming.....
>>>>>>>
The method that worked best for me : was simply to try to understand your dreams more... Everytime you wake up, try to record your dreams.... The more you attempt to remember your dreams, the more frequently you will be able to remember them... This also leads to an increased awareness of whether you are dreaming or not.... ;)

I wish you a lot of luck!

Thanks, for the question!;)

My regards!

Take care!

I remember writing an essay about this in school. I did this some time back so I can't remember the specific details. However there's several stages of sleep. Once you are in a deep sleep you fall into a dreaming state. It is such a deep state that the only way you remember your dream is if you are slightly woken up during this state.

Dream is only one of the four stages in Human awareness. The four stages are Waking , Dream, Deep sleep and another ( not very knownstage of) Thuria. As you can see Dream is an intermediate step that goes to prove thatthe physical body is different from the mind. In Dream, you run , you chase, you fall, you do everything while the body is in no way involved . You cannot conrtrol this stage. You can only partially remember the dreams.

The other stages the mind is also completely out.

Controlling dreams is known as Lucid dreaming...and there is a way to train yourself to have lucid dreams...

The best way is to think and focus before you sleep on a particular object or feature in a dream that you are bound to come across and remind you, that you are dreaming.

This works for a friend of mine who dreams frequently of guns (for whatever reason) and whenever in a dream she sees a gun, she realises she is dreaming and does whatever she wants...

However, if your dreams are as random, disjointed and surreal as mine you will find the task of lucidity more difficult.

To remember dreams it is a good idea to keep a pen and notepad by your side and also train yourself to wake up before your alarm clock as the sudden awakening is a form of shock and almost always wipes the dream from your mind.

Dreams are tricky, some people have no control over thier dreams.. funny I should see your question though.
I used to have horrible nightmares since I was little. then before I would go to bed I would just think good thoughts and remind myslef its me dreaming. So if I had a scarey dream I could literaly tell myself im dreaming.. and Poof! I wake up..
Just remember before you go to bed that you ARE in control. hope it helps you out..
I always ask my friends about thier dreams.. and for some reason lots of people dont dream.. so they say.. I almost always remeber what I have dreamt about..
but its probly like anything else in the world, you have to practice for what you want and you can get it.. even in your dreams..
p.s before you do anything when you wake up.. first try to think of what you have dreamt about.. write it down if possible...then afgter awhile you might get a better memory ..

You can start a dream by thinking of a story or making one up as you lay down to sleep. Keep a pad and pen next to your bed and as soon as you rise jot down everything you remember. As you do this daily you will get better at it. You'll want to have fun with this don't make it a chore.

Always try before you fall asleep to have good feelings, ban the bad ones out of your brain.
To remember your dreams it's quit simple, write them down in a book.
