The longest word in any major English language dictionary is not the widely-believed pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (45 letters), supposed to refer to a lung disease, but research has discovered that this word was originally intended as a hoax.
The IUPAC nomenclature for organic chemical compounds is open-ended, giving rise to such words as Methionylthreonylthreonyl...isoleucine (189,819 letters).

The longest I know is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. I hope I spelled it right. Took me a few days to even remember it. The funny thing is that it's the fear of long words. That's irony right there.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis ..it's a type of lung disease from breathing in this dust like stuff, usually from volcanoes. Now say that word 10 times while jumping on your bed , then you've got it going for you.♫
