Because the "voters" aren't mature enough to see BENEATH the skin...

You're probably right. It's like political elections (real ones), the name recognition is what wins the race most of the time. People don't really check out what the candidates stand for. In school, if your folks are well known, the students and teachers just accept those kids as leaders. There was this town that was called a "railroad" town as it had trains coming through all the time. Every child whose dad worked on the railroad was considered "rich" and we automatically popular no matter how they looked or acted. This went on from generation to generation. It is a peer pressure thing.

Because *everything* in school is a popularity contest. Schools run by the law of the jungle. Nobody even starts to get a brain in their head till 25 or 30.

Usually 'popular' kids are well known for some reason. I think popular means they are well liked, therefore, winning votes because they are popular. High school in general, is a popularity contest. Its so nice when its over...you can finally be you without so many lables to live up to or live down.

Because kids and teens are stupid. They think who their friends were/ how popular they were in school is "what everything else in life will be like"
So to speak. Heck I dunno. I wasn't that popular in school, but definately not unpopular either. To be honest I really didn't give a sh*t who I hung out with or anything like that. I was just there for learning purposes...
I didn't have my nose stuck up anyones a*s or anything to be popular. But I was kinda anyway. My mom and dad taught me there is more to life than highschool. And also.. They don't understand that it's highschool then the real world.
Teachers also play favorites instead of picking students that deserve awards they will give them to the cheerleader/ jocks. This really makes me sick.
And elections and crap are just POPULARITY contests.
Anyway.......

Yes they are. Try putting a nobody in the running with a popular person and see who wins. Totally a popularity contest!

Because really, no matter who gets elected, the schoolyear will be the same regardless, and school aged kids are pretty dumb anyways.

Every year we'd have one of those, and I always circled everyone's name and write something stupid off to the side. Elections are a joke.

because elections are won by high numbers of votes and being liked by high numbers of people is the definition of popularity. having skills and communicating that you actually represent people are two different things. i'm glad popularity, personality, public speaking, etc. are part of elections... otherwise, we'd have even more of a disconnect between government and the people.

i imagine that it is one hundred% a acceptance contest. i comprehend this because i'm in twelfth grade and ever when you consider that i have been in center college, each and every of the faculty elections were received by technique of common human beings. i comprehend it is no longer in basic terms a twist of destiny. i imagine that they do no longer take them heavily in any respect.
