i won't address the current affairs of government and elected officials here. i don't think it really applies to your question.

you are asking how americans got so messed up. i think it is because we run our lives in such a fasion as to believe that things that are not important are important to us. we work under sleep deprivation because the bosses want us to multi task, doing more than one thing at a time in the correct way, when your brain that does so much as it can, running your entire being, that we simply CANNOT do two or more tasks correctly at one time.

so then, you try hard to keep your job, doing everything they want you to do--at least you TRY to multi task--so that the "bottom line" can be met without ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the company's jobs going overseas, where labor is so cheap that you'd die if you had to live on that income.

as to what is important: i think that your LIFE is important. i mean, for some reason, you and no one else got born. you and i and everyone is a magical item of creation, entirely unique and different from everyone else. within our humanness, we possess a body, a mind, what we call heart, spirit, and feelings. we should think first about taking care of our HEALTH. that means that none of us should multi task and end up living in sleep deprivation because it makes us all screwed up! do you think company execs care about your health? no, they don't.

so then, once we all just revolt and stop working our lives away, we have to ask ourselves, what is important?

i think that we do not have to have as many "things" that we buy, the things that end up in the basement and attic, which accumulate to the point that you cannot even figure out what to keep and what to give away. as to technology, do not buy the latest and greatest (and therefore most expensive, like the first calculators), but wait for the bugs to be killed and then buy only one item, that with the highest quality and that will last a long time. do you really HAVE to have more and more and more of the latest and greatest inventions? what are they going to do for you? will they make you a better friend? will they make you feel happy inside?

you should figure out what it is that makes you feel happiness and then figure out ways to LIVE your happiness.

you and all of us should extend the personal happiness that is inside of us, if only we allow ourselves not to wallow in misery all the time (but you really have to think about how you run your life now and how you could change it to benefit you), to others that we meet, each and every day. after all, all of us are only human beings. i do not automatically like everyone i meet, but when i demonstrate that at least i respect their humanity, somehow the message gets across to them that they have value. we all have value, with our foibles, faults, character defects, as well as with our personal qualities.

americans are so f*cked up because we have lazy minds. we don't take time to try to make this world any better than it is. when we are only out for ourselves, then we become "the ugly american," too.

french, in particular, say they hate us, hate the ugly american, when we saved their people from hitler. how easy it is for folks to forget. but nonetheless, look at what we do. when you visit another country, you should study a little bit about the language, about what are polite ways to ask questions, learn about the culture and what mores the people within it live by. all cultures have differences, but we americans do not bother to show much respect for them, do we?

for example: look at what happens if you walk into your local k-mart, wal-mart, etc. looking for a set of sheets and matching pillowcases. you are most likely to not be able to get an entire matching, fitting, set. that's because we americans think we can do whatever we damned well please. we will take a set of pillowcases and put them into our carts, for example, thinking that they will "go with" another set of sheets. then we change our minds as we are walking the store, and place the packages into the toy section, for example. how rude!

in paris the clerks are very proud of the hard work they do to provide you with service. their stores are clean, and they are polite to you the moment you walk in the door. but no way is it right for you to just go over to a shelf and tear into the stack of sweaters until you find something you may, just may, buy. the clerk wants to do this for you. let them. they are very pleased to get you another size or color, if you bother to communicate a little with them in their own tongue (french)--or even in one of the usual four other languages they are used to speaking (in france and in other european countries). when they bring you what you ask for, they take what you do not want and go quietly to fold it neatly and put it back into its proper place.

now i ask you why don't people just think about what polite and correct conduct means? it takes THINKING, and it takes a spirit of wanting to be COOPERATIVE and CONSIDERATE rather than thinking about OURSELVES and only ourselves all the time.

another thing: children do not need each and every single toy they see and nag at you to buy them. they need your love far more. they need you to read to them and to laugh with them and play with them. if you only give your children objects to hold their attention (such as the latest x-box games to play after they do their homework), they will then become shallow, inconsiderate, selfish brats. they will also be "ugly americans."

i say we should carefully consider what values we as americans hold dear, such as the liberty of being who you are, saying what you want, printing what you feel is right. then we should apply that broad liberty to all others in the world, making them feel welcome and happy, just for being the human beings that they are--allowing THEM to express their opinions and feelings, and to listen far better to them so that you learn about how others feel and live in this world.

nothing ever happens via inactivity, laying around, listening all day to your iPod. we are also "ugly" because we are miserably lonely. but you, at your own will, have the power to welcome others into your life, to make you feel better for the enrichment that they can give you that stems from what they were raised as, where they come from, what they think. you and i and everyone should better appreciate the wonderful differences that all people have.

Ummmm..... the whole world is f'd up.

Why does everyone hate us? I don't think everyone hates us. There's many answers to that question though.

a)we are the richest country in the world. envy is a strong influence.

b)we are by far the richest country in the world. Even though we owe lots of money and bush is spending all our money like a dope fiend. We still have more billionaires than any other country in the world.

c)we do lots of things that are f'd up to other countries. In central america. Africa. All over really. It's not like we all of a sudden went to war with Iraq. We've been dropping bombs on Iraq for years. not that other countries aren't just as guilty, but, well....I can't finish this sentence.

d) Most of the world is not so mixed. Chinese people live in China. Nigerian people live in Nigeria. People move around somewhat, yet there is a lot of nationalism. Different kinds of prejudice. In America we have a lot of people coming here, some who were brought here, and two different people who originally stole this land. Columbus was spanish, and brought the spaniards to the country. To the West Indies actually. They moved around the southwest. Well, they lived in Mexico and such. Thus the reason Mexicans and others speak spanish. Cause, surprise surprise, not everybody from Mexico is exactly "mexican". You've got Chicano's and Azteca's, etc. There is such a class war going on. The rich want to destroy the middle class and the poor....well....when I was poor I said f the middle class as well. Even though I come from the middle class. I hung out with the poor or the rich. Because that's all there was. I'm middle class now and I still say f uck it. What good is having enough money to pay your bills but never having enough to really do what you want? Middle class people get savings accounts and stuff....they spend their whole life saving up a nest egg so they can chill with they get to be 60..... why???

If your poor you might as well go for it, what do you have to lose. If your rich you're either going to stay rich, which sucks for us, or you're going to be pretty poor. Many people I knew who didn't have that much, but had enough, came from very rich family's. They didn't care to be rich...it seemed. Just enough to keep up their psuedo-life and be self-righteous.

anyway.....I don't think I answered your question. why is america so f'd up and why does everyone hate us?

I would not say almost each person. I have a few European peers who haven't any main issue with America, apart from its govt, who have stated they do not know many persons who truthfully ***** that ordinarily or care both. They have their possess disorders. Though I do not comprehend why we could be viewed caught up and worrying little approximately different nations, because I totally doubt persons in different nations are worried for the welfare of the ones in America both. A lot of double requisites. There are regularly going to be persons who do hate blindly. It's only a facet of lifestyles. Between adverse movements through our govt as good because the pervasive stereotypes approximately us, which might be situated in a few fact like any stereotypes, I suppose it simply paints an unsightly snapshot. Some can select to suppose that is all there's, however there are extra wise members available in the market who recognize higher than to make such judgments in opposition to an complete nation. This is going for Americans as good. Having stated that, I myself don't hate anybody and love many different nations of the sector. A lot of lovely areas, and exceptional persons. We're all human. We're all attached, without reference to what patch of grime we're born on. I do not suppose we will have to permit that outline us.

Standardized test scores began to drop when they took the Bible out of the schools. (Believe it or not!)

I don't t think that everyone hates us. I just returned from overseas and have spoken to many from other countries. Some don't like the current administration's foreign policy, but most don't hate the American people.

There are many trying to get visas to come to America because they believe that it is a place where they can prosper, be free... Coming here for the same reasons that our forefathers came: to enjoy the God given right of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

It started with Dr. Spock (no, not First Officief Spock). Then came the habit of "victimhood" where everyone had a reason (EXCUSE) for the bad things they were doing. Also came along "I'm entitled" which has led to people becoming p1ssed off if they have to wait for anything, especially when they drive behind someone who might be slow or not know the roads as well. Just anything upsets them because the universe should be revolving around them.

And yes, I'm an American (and proud, proud of it!).

It's hard to say when it all started but I think it happened after people landed here from Europe. I've been reading a bit of our history and it turns out that only the Americans who could be violent were/are fuc**n this country up. I think people just don't like people who are violent.

If all you are concerned about is world opinion, drop it. World opinion has always been on the wrong side. Take a look at history, in the lead up to WWII, everybody kept saying leave the Nazis alone, including the majority of Americans until we were hit by the Japanese.
Many other examples.
If you want to talk about economy or job market or ecology, anthropology, we are among the best in the world. Europe has to pay more than five bucks for a gallon of gas. Europe has a worse immigration problem than we have. Europe uses nuclear power. China squelches opposing voices. No Muslim country has freedom of religion. Europe has unemployment levels in double digits. Europe has a declining population problem much worse than ours. European socialized medical systems are worthless.

I could go on for days.

Have you been over seas to talk these people? I have. The germans love us but the turkish imigrants there don't like us. The turkish immigrants there are hated by all of the german people because they have brought the same kind of trouble into that country as the illegal mexican immigrants have here. France don't like us because well they don't like any country. The japanees like us and are bringing all kinds of buisness over here. Mexico doesn't like us because we are shuting our borders to their drugs, crime, and money laundering. The muslim world don't like us because we haven't backed down from the evil regems. And actualy some of the muslim nations do like us. On september 11 don't you remember how the streets of muslims cities were singing praises to us being attacked and claiming responsibilty for it until their politicians stop it. They have hated what we stand for since we were a first formed. Britan is our greatest Alie. So who hates us exactly. The third world countries that we feed with our donations. They are probably against us because we are not giving them more free food. Thats why north Korea has been throwing a temper tantrem. Tell me who hates us.

Only some Americans are f***** up, but of course they make it bad for people like you. I suppose it's the 'we don't give a crap about anyone else' attitude in foreign policy. That would do it.

I find it interesting, too, that if a non-American like me comments on American politics, I'm told to mind my own business. Yet America seems to want to shape the world in its image, so shouldn't the world have some right to be critical from time to time??

I have American friends who actually say they are from Canada when they travel, to avoid trouble. They feel guilty because I'm Canadian, but it doesn't bother me. I just think it's sad they have to do that, because they are good people.

Good luck, anyway.

It's the world that's f*cked up, not America. We are the greatest civililization in the history of the world and the sooner the rest of them start to emulate us, the sooner we can call this a sane planet. If you disagree maybe you should try living in the arab world, hidden behind a bhurka. Be carefull though, they've been known to chop of women's clitorisis.
If you still have yours, thank the soldiers fighting to keep the hands of islam off your snatch!

Wow, I agree with linus up there. When it comes down to government taking away our civil liberties, it just shows how much Bush has overdone it. This country is f'd up and anyone who denies it is living in a castle with white ponies and fairies flying around. The poor are getting poorer while the rich are benefitting. We're worried about stupid stuff like gay marriages...what about violence in schools, North Korea, and crooked politicians? That is why we are messed up we can't handle the big stuff....thank god for the First Amendment!!

Also, why are we so busy taking care of other countries when we can't take care of our own. If we, meaning the U.S., can't get our socioeconomics down, where are justified telling other countries how to do it. I understand we have these rights that other countries don't, but look how they are used and abused. The land of the free and the home of the brave...TRUE, but we are far from the perfect country.
