U r using the wrong foundation-it should never look cakey. Lots of models r loaded with freckles before the makeup. try different ones or better yet, try to find a mary kay party--they will tell u your skin type, which foundations to use and lots of good pointers---u do not have to buy if u do not want--but their products are excellent. Look for a Mary kay dealer, she can give u a personal consultation also for free!

Didn't you realise "FRECKLES ARE A SIGN OF BEAUTY" so don't cover them up and show them off instead!!! However if they are a big concern for you, maybe you could tone them down.
You said putting foundation on over your freckles makes your face look cakey, it sounds to me like you're using a foundation too heavy for your skin type. Maybe you could use a lighter one that creates a more flawless & natural look.
I always use Boots No7 Radient glow, it really does do what it says and gives a very luminous & fresh look, it minimises my freckles (mind you I only have some!!) and really does give my skin a radient glow.
If you were looking for someting with a bit more coverage and staying power, you could try the Boots No7 stay perfect foundation range which hydrates the skin and stays on for ages. I would use this if I was going out for the night. Other brands I've tried and tested are L'oreal infallible make-up & Revlon Colour stay make-up, both give great coverage, are reasonably priced, have wide range of colour options and stay on for a long time.
Getting back to the point though, I would still try and go for a foundation, that gives a sheer fininsh especially for a natural look, like the one I mentioned earlier. You could even try a tinted moisturiser or mix a little of your own make-up with some moisturiser and lightly dust over your face with some translucent powder.
Hope this helps

I'm a freckled face as well and i avoid putting foundation all over my face if i can, since it really does make freckles fade and it looks cakey. what i do is if i have some problem areas i target those individual places with a drop of foundation, NOT concealer, then some loose powder over that. in terms of makeup, a creamy brown eyeliner will always come in handy. in addition, if you get a bold, bright fuschia lipstick and just dot it on your lips over chapstick, it'll make a very subtle, sheer bubblegum pink color
good luck!

Embrace your freckles! Don't cover them up!
If you want a "natural" look, you shouldn't be slapping on foundation to achieve the "flawless" look! It's only in the celeb world does having flawless skin looks natural.
Just dust on loose powder, a teeny bit of blush and do your eyes the way you like it, put on a shade that is close to your lip colour, and voila! you're done!

For hair, I highly suggest to switch out your regular conditioner for a hair masque. Tresseme sells one for quite cheap and it really tames your hair! Sometimes I can go without straightening my hair, because it makes it smooth. The masque is called "Tresseme Nourishing Rituals Rejuvenating Mud Masque" You can also try to use a hair serum to smooth out your hair when you blow dry it. I use a cheap one from Aussie, but Tresseme also has good ones. As for a heat spray, I suggest Tresseme heat spray. It has the best spray nozzle on it that gives an even mist all over your hair. It's great! As for a straightener.. Just be sure that it has ceramic plates. They are less damaging. For your upper lip.. You should really have it waxed by a professional at first, and ask them their opinion on good drugstore brands. That way you can see how they do it, and you can imitate it at home. For makeup... Since it's for school, just keep it simple. I suggest Covergirl Natureluxe foundation. It goes on very smooth and is light-weight. Just use a small amount of it. A great setting powder is Maybelline Dream Matte powder. Apply your eye makeup as usual, and add some blush if you want. I like the blushes from Rimmel. Hope this helped! ^__^

there are some nice sheer foundations....but you might just want to use a foundation stick (bobby brown and benefit have nice ones) and use it only on problem areas, dark cirlcles, pimples, any redness. then use a sheer powder.
remember natural doesn't have to mean a bare...just more natural. A great natural look is a warm beige eyeshadow, brown eyeliner around the eyes but very lightly and blend. Then a warm blush...then a beige/pink lipstick with a light lip pencil.

What u need is a colour corrector that conceal your freckles then put on your foundation. If it look cakey mean that you had put too much foundation.

My understanding is that the "natural" look is well more natural. Meaning you really don't have a need to use foundation. Just use a concealor under your eyes and any tiny problem you want to hide (just blend it in well) then dust a lil powder over your face.

I also have freckles across my nose but I just don't use powder.I just use eyeliner mascara and lip gloss.I don't think foundations or powders of any kind are good for your skin because they clog your pores and you get zits!Don't worry about powder, don't buy it!
