Let x be Johnny's paycheck. Here is a hint for word problems -

"of" means multiply. The problem says "4/13 of his paycheck" so we know part of it is "(4/13)x".

"Is" means equals. We know from the word problem that 4/13 "OF" Johnny's paycheck (x) "IS" $26.80. So we write:

(4/13)x = 26.80

Now solve for x:

Multiply both sides by 13:

13(4/13)x = (13)26.80

the 13's cancel out.

4x = 348.40

Now divide both sides by 4:

4x/4 = 348.40/4

Simplify

x = $87.10

The word of in a word problem can almost always be read as times (*). Is becomes equals (=):
(4/13)*paycheck = $26.80
Multiply both sides by 13:
4(13/13)*paycheck = $26.80*13 (13/3) = 1
4*paycheck = $26.80*13
Divide both sides by 4:
(4/4)*paycheck = $26.80*13/4, 4/4 = 1, so
paycheck = $26.80*13/4

The rest is just performing the operations.

Usually one uses a letter to represent the desired quantity, but here we have plenty of space.

In this sort of problem,you hav to inverse the fraction and multiply by the amount to get the answer because in problems concerning fraction "1" is taken as the whole thing or amount and if you myltiply a fraction by its inverse fraction,you get 1.Now,let us solve the problem--- 4/13 part of Johnys paycheck=$26.80. Therefore the amount of paycheck is $26.80 X13/4 =$ 87.10 ans

There are several ways to solve. Just looking at the numbers, I would

$26.80 divided by 4 = $6.70-- this is 1/13 of his pay.
$6.70 x 13 = the answer is the paycheck amount. You can do this part on your own.
