Arsenal have developed the way they play the 4-5-1 formation, they first used it to great effect in the champions league which enabled them to reach the final, the reason for this being the way in which they dominated proceedings in the midfield, with Hleb,Fabregas,Ljunberg and Reyes all being allowed the space and time to move forward in attack, while Gilberto sat just in front of the back four and did an amazing job. This suited arsenal in europe because teams could not handle the movement of the arsenal midfield. Wenger chose to play 4-4-2 in the premiership, partly because of henry needing more support up front in these games,and being able to sacrifice a midfielder in the premiership.This season Wenger started with a 4-4-2 but has now adapted the 4-5-1 formation to great effect as the players seem to have grown into it, players have come and gone but rosicky has fitted into the system perfectly and recently at the weekend they played stunning football against reading and showed how this formation suits all of arsenals players. My only concern was whether Henry would prefer this system, but he has shown how versatile he is and can play in any system,but what more could you expect from the best player in the world.

As for defenders in january, i dont think we need to spend the money as we have players coming back, senderos and clichy. Lauren is out til the new year but we have cover at right back. Our best back four at the moment (when fit), Eboue (Rb) Gallas (Cb) Toure (CB) and Clichy (Lb).

Arsenal must do the 4-4-2. They need a player like Van Persie or Adebayor supporting Henry. But I guess it is very situational; if they are playing a strong squad like Chelsea, winning in the midfield is going to be an uphill battle. They would probably have to do the 4-5-1 when going up against players like Ballack, Lampard, and Essien. As for getting a defender in january...as long as they don't financially break themselves, a strong defender wouldn't hurt at all. But they already have a pretty strong defense.

best formation is 4-4-2, but i bet on 4-5-1 in big matches, the 2nd formation is so pefect if Arsenal buys Riberry instead of Ljungberg, Arsenal will have the best midfielder line in the world in both formation, i dont think Arsenal needs another defender, Wenger said that he will buy when it needed....so i am sure he don't want to.....
