Ideally they should, but I've found changing purses to be extremely time consuming and annoying. So I match my shoes to my belt and other accessories, but get neutral purses to match the season.

You don't wanna go with matchy matchy, but things that work together is a great idea. Utilize either similar / complimenting patterns or colour scheme's, or you could play with textures through fabrics and prints.

No, it is no longer stylish to do that. Your purse should be in an accent color.
