It just depends on how strict the workplace is or what you want to do for a living. My husband is a foreman at a construction company and is tattooed from head to toe. His boss and co-workers don't seem to mind. But it is unfortunate in this day and age that a book is still judged by it's cover. I cover my tattoos when going to any school related functions for our son or when I'm going to be in the presence of his friends parents (I'm the youngest in the bunch so I am more subject to judgment).

Hello and thank you for taking the time to write regarding your question about employment and tattoos.

Let me tell you this, and some people will not like this direct answer, but as the President of a Large Company, any candidate that we interview that has tattoos that are placed on their body so that we can see them during the interview process is immediately "docked points" in our recruitment report.

You see, we are an International Company and it is essential that we project the highest OVERALL QUALITY PUBLIC IMAGE. That starts with our employees down to our web site at www.CollectionIndustryLive.com

Be careful where you place the tattoos and you will be ok. Once you are in the organization, then go wild and show the awesome tats that you have!

To your Continued Success,

As long as they can be covered while at work than yes. I work in manufacturing where some of the engineers have tattoos that are visible when they wear short sleeves which he does all of the time. For me, since I want to move up the ladder, I got mine so that when I wear short sleeves they are still covered. Some businesses it doesn't matter while in others they are still frowned upon.

Yes and no. Depends on the job and how concerned the people doing the hiring are about that stuff.

If you cover them during the interview process, you should be fine. Be forewarned though, some people above you in the food chain may see them some day and treat you differently after seeing them.

Depending on the Job, but if they can be covered you should be okay. Most employers don't care as long as they are covered.

Not that I know of. When you apply for a position and interview for it, wear long sleeves and cover the tats.

if you can cover your tattoos and whoever is hiring you cannot see them, then they should not be a factor.

If you want a serious higher paying job and want to get considered for promotions, hide or get rid of the tatoos, and don't wear earrings (if you're male).
