I think he's too young, although, I want to let him express his individuality, "all his friends have one"

I'm not saying it's "based on his popularity", I was telling what I hear him saying(which is normal in 7th grade)
I'm a mother that just needed a couple of opinions, the THE kind of mother I am!

Never do anything because you feel bad that 'all his friends are doing it'. That said, he's probably old enough to make that decision...I wouldn't like it either, but he is becoming his own self, and he should be allowed to do that to an extent.

Think back to when you where 12 years old...do you think that you were old enough to make that kind of decision on your own or did you fall into the "peer pressure" hole? Just because all his friends have an ear piercing does not mean that you have to give in to this "whim" of his. Ask him to wait until he is 13 (an actual teenager) and if he still wants it, then I say YOU GO WITH HIM to get it done. Trust me, the next step will be a tattoo (age 18 legally) so be ready...and honestly, they really aren't aren't as taboo as they use to be years ago. I am a 37 year old mother of an 8 and 12 year old (both boys) and I have one tattoo in honor of them and a couple of butterflies because I love butterflies and they just think that their mom is the bomb.

My son is 15. The first time we tried he kept taking it out. He just recently got his ear pierced again and he's doing well. He was a little too immature the first time around. I think it's individual b/c I see some very young kids with pierced ears

I don't think it's that big of a problem. I have a teen son (13) and if he wanted one that would be fine with me.
HOWEVER, YOU are his parent and if you feel it is not okay, then it's your rules.

Talk it over with him. Discuss the pros and cons. Is he mature enough to keep his ear clean while it heals? Why does he want the earring? What are your thoughts as to why he is not old enough, etc.
Also, what does his dad say about the subject??

my personal opinion is that 12 isn't all that young. try to talk to him and make him wait a couple weeks and let him really think about this before he goes thru with it. just keep in mind that it is just an earring and he can take it out and let the hole grow shut.

Anything under 15 years old is too young to have an earring.

an earring isnt bad. at least its not drugs or teen pregnancy. and he feels he can come to you. hes 12 and as for jobs cant he just be a kid. my son is now 3 and he wanted an earring just like his dad ( who has a great paying job that supports himself me and 6 kids im a stay home mom) when he was 2 i pierced it. if he doesnt want it later he can take it out. lesson learned. at least he came and asked. most kids wouldnt do that.

Pick your battles. Setting age limits is appropriate. Be sure to let him read articles about jobs/colleges and earrings. Also, to see pictures of infected ears. Best wishes - just don't let this become THE power struggle you don't need at this age.

My son is 6, I got both of his ears pierced because he wanted to. I see nothing wrong with it, a lot of guys, men, kids have them. Just depends on if he will be able to care for them himself other wise you will have to help out.

Does he really want em or is it just because his friends have em? Be sure to ask that too. Good luck...if it's a whole or two just think it could be worse.

What kind of mother makes her decisions based on your kids popularity? Screw what the other kids are doing, it's your house, and until he's eighteen thats your ear. I don't care which decision you make, but do it for the right reasons.

It's just an earring.
How is it humanly possible to be too young for an earring when people get their ears pierced as young as infancy?
