Depends on your body style... Ask at a prom dress shop. They would be able to help you find the most stunning dress for your body!

It depends... There's a lot of options to worth with. But it depends on your body type....
Ask yourself these questions...
Are you busty? If so, you want support and a less of a plunge.
Do you want a lot of your back to show? There's spaghetti straps, thick straps, halter, strapless. etc.
What length do you want the dress? Do you wanna show off a little leg, or do you want it full length. This is also gonna help you with what kind of shoes you're gonna wear. Because if they're really cute shoes, you want a shorter length dress.
Also your curves play a role too.... Do you want something form fitting, a lot of room to move...?
Also, if you're a thick girl, be sure to wear a girdle or something to control the pudge for homecoming. That will make a dress look bad with a dress that is making you look physically bad.
And then just go into a department store or wherever that carries a variety of evening dresses and decide what look flatters you as well as what you feel comfortable in. For my prom I wore a cute long black dress, and it was form fitting, long black gloves, and a tiara. I felt like I was prom queen without the drama! And it flattered me because I had cz necklace with accessories so it made the black look elegant and sexy.... Good luck girl... Hope that helped.

Well, here's an idea. I went to my prom, I wanted to be unique, and still look fashionable and cool. These days women in "prom" dress look like Cinderella gone WAY wrong, and like they are trying to play "dress up". If you want to make a splash next to these ladies, go with a cocktail dress. Something one color like white for an African-american ladie, red for a indian or spanish woman. and black for a caucasian lady, about to your knees that clings well nice open back heels and a set of pearls, don't go too over bored with your jewlery, think small, for reasons your about to see. Very Audrey Hepburn, and very classy but still pretty and festive. Also, go to a place like Charlotte Russe and buy a big, freaking BLAM ring with a colored stone to accent your right hand, a bright big splash of color in an other wise understated outfit, and if you are not wearing hose, a nice anklet that is delicate and flirty. You will look beautiful!

i work at a restaurant and for the last month we have been getting kids in from homecoming dances....and i've seen it all. best dresses i have seen on the girls are shorter and not as formal as the prom dresses........the ones that went all out, stand out like a sore thumb. the most popular dresses this year reflect a bit of the 50's style. full short skirt with abit of underlay ruffle. many are stapless. the one i bought my daughter was a black lace over a tan stapless sheath with a black grossgrain belt that tied in a bow in the back........beautiful. head to bergner, debs, famous barr or such........good selection to choose from

Forget about what's in, forget about what everyone else is wearing. Find something that suits you. Keep trying on dresses until you find one that really makes you smile when you see yourself in it. If you feel good, you will look good and a confident woman is always lovely.
If you choose something that is different from the norm, but look awesome and happy in it, everyone will admire your fashion sense and daring.
Most of all have fun!

You want to wear something elegant and that is figure flattering. Not showing the "goodies" however not covering it up either. Looking classy stands out in a crowd. Try www.groupusa.com they have a wonderful selection of dresses.

Go to www.PromDressShop.com. They have all you need and they ship worldwide. Don't waste your time on department stores that offer 15 of the same dress. You don't want to end up wearing the same as everyone else.
