DO NOT run the engine. If you do, follow the advise offered above.
If you haven't driven the car, remove ALL of the fuel as well as you can, then remove the tank and take it to a radiator repair shop and ask that it be "boiled" out.
Good Luck

I was watching those two guys, Jamie and Adam on Mythbusters the other day. They were exploring the sugar in the gas tank myth. They put sugar, I mean LOTS OF SUGAR, like 5 pounds of it, in the tank of an old car. When they ran it, It did nothing to the engine. They were amazed, as was I. Because I had aways heard it would turn into a taffy like substance that would gum up everything. But clearly it just did not happen. They called the myth busted. So I would just drain the tank, put in fresh gas with some injector cleaner and take it on the road for an hour. That should get every thing out.

Remove the gas tank if possible get a new one. Sugar when heated turns into a solid just like when you make candy apples. Don t listen to those that say sugar will not hurt your engine. The first thing that will seize up will be the intake valves. If you pull the head you will see the build up on the valves and valve stems. I know as I am now have a customers car with that problem.

A minute ammount of sugar or the syrup from sugar and water or coke will make the pistons stick to the cylinders and more.
Remove the gas tank empty it. wash it out and soak with very hot water to disolve the sugar crystals Dry it thoroughly. I fit has fuel injection and the fuel pump in the gas tank. you may be able to flush it with hot water, then run gas through it. The injector rail and lines need to be flushed. Shake the gas out of the injectors
Big job, but better than the alternattive. It all depends if you ran it after and got sugar in the engine.

Go to myth busters to confirm this. I understand that they did tests, and found that there was no noticeable damage from sugar in the gas. Add gas line anti-freeze, the sugar will dissolve in the antifreeze better and then add 1/2 qt/ltr 2cyl engine oil or injecter/carborater cleaner to the next couple of tanks of gas. that should clean out the sugar.
Thank you, ssimgc

I think it is worse when it is mixed with diesel fuel. This was a trick used by disreputable trucking competitors for years. In a diesel, it will start to break down into a gummy sludge. It also causes havoc in the tight tolerances of modern diesel fuel pumps and injectors. Filters have come a long way in the past years, but i have seen injectors get wiped out if the sugar is not flushed for a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love the myth busters. Hopefully they will try it with diesel someday.

First of all (DO NOT START THE ENGINE) if you let it run the melted sugar will go to the carb and the engine cool off and lock up everything if you havent done this already just drop the gas tank and have it flushed

i own a repair shop, and first off don't drive it,you,ll have to remove the tank from it and completely flush it out ,also all the fuel lines will all have to be cleaned out on it,you need to replace the fuel pump also on it and maybe remove the upper lines that enter in to the intake at the injection system and check and see if it made it up that far,,after all of this you might get lucky and be able to start it,and it be OK,but if you have drove it any at all you have a problem, and its going to cost to repair it, i have repaired them before that was sugared, and sometimes you get lucky ,and it don't ruin the engine, good luck i hope this help,s.
