Interesting questions.
I read that in the south of Arabia there was a huge dam that burst about 400 A.D., and forced the people who farmed the previously irrigated area to migrate.
The 6th and 7th canturies the occasion of a great flowering of Arabic literature - the poems of the Muallaqat for example - of which you could call the Quran the culmination - but if you're a muslim that will get you into deep trouble, as to them the Quran can't be the culmination of anything human.
Mecca was a trading place, while Medina was more agricultural. Muhammad's jihad revelation allowed his followers to attack Mecca's trading caravans.
As for Abraham, they believe or claim to believe he built the Kaaba. In fact, as the temple seems to be mentioned in Diodorus, c. 50 BC, and not in his source, c. 300 BC, it was probably built some time between the two dates.
