There's very different kinds of famous. If you were famous for getting your **** out in the Big Brother house, that'd pretty much suck. If you were famous for discovering the laws of gravity or somesuch, that'd rock.
I think what's key is being famous for 'work' of some kind, if you're an artist or thinker or the like, fame represents validation. You know the song you wrote is good because 100,000 people bought it etc. It has a downside too, but I can definitely understand why the trade-off might be worth it for that validation.
If you're famous just for being famous, like so many random celebrities seem to be nowadays, then that'd be horrible - it'd be a big intrusion into your life with no upside. I can't see why people want this either.

I know that I would detest being famous. I would not want all that focus on me. It is an ego problem isn't it? Most of these people are masquerading in front of the rest of us. Behind their famous masks is a lot of dirt. We are all humans and are apt to make mistakes but most of us do not "show off" and want to be in the limelight. They love the attention that they probably did not get from their parents. the amount of money that most of these celebrities make is ridiculous and then a lot of them get themselves into debt despite all that. Most people want to live in nice houses and wear nice clothes but do we really want to live in mansions where there is a cold atmosphere and to have bodyguards and lakeys around us? I have had a good lifestyle and have been lucky though I have not been a celebrity in any way and I know that having servants etc is a bind and is not as trouble free as it sounds. It is much nicer to have a small comfortable home and a loving family than having all that unnecessary attention. There is nothing like good hard work...it gives you self satisfaction,

I don't believe that everyone wants to be famous. I don't want to be famous. do YOU? I do think that people in general like to be noticed, appreciated, and validated. but I don't think that the majority of the population just wants to live the life of the celebrity.
As for the fabulously wealthy and the rich and famous.. I don't think they knew what they were getting into when they put their foot on the path that would eventually lead them to super stardom.
Take Madonna, for instance. (yes, please, take her faaaar away.)
OK we all knew she wanted to be notorious, and from the word go, she strove for immortality through her superstardom... but 30 years ago there really wasn't this entity called the Papparazzi. She had no idea what laid in store in the future. Our culture, the media and mass communication are what have made the life of the "celebrity" so difficult and traumatic. But poor babies. They wanted the lime light, there it is.
"though I appreciate the aim, tell Andy Warhol's ghost that he can keep his fame. I'd only use it to make everything the same again, so don't applaud til the end, when I'm not around..." bnl.

There are 3 types of people:
1. Those who become famous as a byproduct of their craft/actions/birth
and either shun the attention or utilise to promote charities and worthwhile causes.
2. Those who need constant re-assurance due to low self-esteem. They are drawn to the celebrity lights of fame and wealth but most find all that glitters is not gold.
3. Those who think fame and wealth go hand in hand and they just want to get rich quick.
You can have variations of the above but most people need not worry as fame will never touch them.

Wanting to become famous is actually a pathalogical mental problem. Look at pretty much every famous person: divorces after divorces, drinking/drug issues, sleeping pills, and other problems hidden by a big phoney smile and superficial crap.......anyone wanting to become famous just because they want to be famous is looking for big problems. It's different from contributing/inventing something incognito, and then receiving fame andd recognition later.

I dont think everyone wants to be famous, I think that people want to be wealthy and do not realise what will happen to them when they reach this status, that is why so many fave fallen from the limelight. The people that seem to apsire to it do so mainly out of greed and not wanting to do anything else of sufficient importance with their lives.

i think it stems from a lack of self-esteem but it's normal.we all want to be liked and approval,we all want to become better people and we all have dreams.but once you're already famous, reality hits you and you realise all you want is a nice quiet life.i think it takes courage to be someone famous but with a strong mentality, I think fame shouldn't affect a person's real life or who he is deep inside, so again i say if one does not learn to love himself, fame will do nothing to improve his self-esteem in the long run.only you yourself can make yourself feel special.

Some people want their names to be well-knowned. Being well-knowned makes themselves feel proud. And they just want to taste the taste of being famous and crazed by people. But when they get famous, they'll somehow regret...
