first of all is it a two or four bolt main if its a two bolt main first u do 45 lb. ft then u do 70 lb. ft two stages make sure u start with the center two caps then the next two outer and the next. on a four bolt main u do all bolts to 45lb. ft then u do 65lb ft then the inners u do 70lb ft including the front and rear mains hope this helps everyone else is wrong if u go to tight to 75 u will sieze the bearings and ruin them

Put in a fresh set of plugs and check the timing (vacume advance plugged). Sounds like a timing issue to me. Also, an older V8 needs new plugs at a minimum of once a year. If you have done any mods to the engine I would change them every 6 months depending on how often you drive it. Also, screw in the two small adjustment screws all the way on the carb, then back them out a 1/4-1/2 turn. That should be good to get the car running and you can fine tune the carb after it starts.

i own a repair shop,and if m not mistaken they torque on 65-75 pounds,and do it in 3 different sequences so they all stay even ,i always torque them at 75 ,the book says 70 but it wont hurt to go over 5 pounds on it,good luck with it,i just looked in the book and that torque is correct,good luck i hope this help,s.

My Chilton's says 75ft/lbs for two bolt mains and 75ft/lb inner, 65ft/lbs outer for four bolt mains.
