To treat GERD in a 3 month old have you ever heard of putting 12 tsp. cereal in 6 oz formula every feeding?

Yes, I've heard of it. I wouldn't do it unless it was under a doctor's supervision. Cereal in a bottle is generally a bad idea, unless under a doctor's supervision for stomach issues. It can really help GERD in babies. I've had two friends that were told to do it. Just make sure you get a nipple that is for cereal in bottles.

I've heard of it, but actually there is a formula you can use to help alleviate the problem. Right from birth, even though he was breastfed for the first 5 months, my now 9 month old son was a mess after every feeding. We tried several formulas before our family doctor told us about Enfamil A+ Thickened Formula. It's made specifically for babies who spit up. The cool thing about it is the fact that it has rice starch in it, so that you don't need to add cereal to formula (which can make it hard for the formula to smoothly flow from the bottle nipple, not to mention the fact that babies don't often start cereal until around 5 months of age.). When mixing it, you just need to keep in mind that the water you use must be cold or room temperature otherwise the formula clumps up. Other than that, my husband and I were very happy and satisfied with the product. Now I'm in Canada, so I've made sure to list both the American and Canadian Enfamil websites.

Hopefully, if give it a shot, it will help your baby keep more of his/her food down, assist with growth/weight and ease up on the laundry for you! Lastly, if you do check out the site, you can also look into signing up for coupons from the company. Here in Canada, they're super handy that way (my hubby and I have received almost 40 dollars in coupons over the past month and a half!).

I'm going to agree with optimistic_dr3am3r here, and tell you to get a second opinion. My son is 5 months old now, he's only been on rice cereal for a month, and even then, he was only started becasue our group of pediatritions suggested it to help with his spitting up. I especially am concerned about him reccomending that the cereal be taken from the bottle. First off, adding the cereal would make it a little too thick to flow properly through a regular stage 1 nipple, and it would (I think) flow too quickly to use a stage 2 nipple. Your baby could possibly choke on the amount of fluid in his mouth if he couldn't keep up with it (which I think would be more likely if he was falling asleep at bedtime). Second, (like was already said) it's recommended now that cereal never be fed from a bottle, and never earlier than 4 months, as it can possibly cause problems to immature digestive systems. If it were me, I definately wouldn't do it unless I talked to someone else first.

It is 1/2 to 1 tsp. Also talk to your doctor. There are medicines that work much better than the cereal. Reglan is one of them. My daughter had it really bad when she was little and Reglan is a miracle. Its prescription so just ask your Dr

Please check with your doctor or health dept. before doing this, I am just an old gma but 12 tsp is a lot (way to much I think) for 6oz of formula. a 3 month old cannot digest that much bulk and You might end up with more trouble.There are over the counter gas drops for babies with a tummy ache too and we have used them and they are helpful.

we had to give my son 2 tablespoons for every 1 ounce of formula at that age...
that was the only thing other than the prevacid and prescription formula that helped and that was recomended by his gi doc

BY THE WAY REGLAN IS BAD NEWS! my son had seizures while on it and it does cause nervous system damage with longer than 30 days of use.

yes my granddaughter had to have her bottle thickened and it was 1/2 per ounce but it wasnt even working so they had to use thick-it
