I just went to the Walmart Cell Phone Kiosk and got a cell phone. The sales associate told me that they can run a credit check without it showing up on your credit report. I have terrible credit and I'm trying to rebuild it. I was still able to get a cell phone for me and my husband with no deposit, no activation fee, and no charge for the phones. If you can't get a phone that way, you might check with a friend or relative and see if you 'share a line for $9.99'. Most companies have plans like that and you could just split the bill with your family or friend. And if all else fails, you can always go prepaid.

make the deposit, it will build your credit and you will get it back in 6 - 12 months.
