Yes. In the case of the upcoming elections it matters because whichever party has the majority in the House and Senate will control the agenda. The majority will also gain control of key commitees such as the Ways and Means Commitee. For example if the democrats win the majority in the House Charlie Rangel will become the chairman and he has already said he will do away with every single tax cut Bush has enacted. No matter what other people will say that IS equal to tax increases.

HUGE diff-->>> look into * * * Network neutrality * * *
this will affect you directly and soon ! ! ! !
Republicans are against Network Neutrality ( they're for most scams that are corporate profiteering, Democrats are usually for the people)
Network Neutrality is about how the Internet is structured, and how much you are going to pay for downloading different things. There is a plan right now to charge you more for downloading music or images (that's on top of your regular hookup fees)
And different websites would have to pay different rates to be online at 'premium' speeds. And--here's the really sick part, a company might be charged more than another for top speeds. Say somebody has some sort of kickback policy going on with MSN, then MSN gets charged less to be top speed. Of course they want to get rid of the competition, so all other competitors--say Yahoo, would be charged much much more to be at the same speed.
Instead of us consumers deciding what we want to see or do on the Net, alot of websites are going to go bust because they can't compete on an uneven playing field.
Anytime there is a pro-business, screw the consumer issue, the Republicans are front and center trying to screw over the consumers.

I am not so sure that party affiliation really does matter, but it might in a close vote in the house or senate. The lines and differences have become somewhat blurred between the Democrats and the Republicans. If one looks at the platforms though, there are still fundamental differences and that could sway my vote.

Republicans want to leave Iraq, but only when Iraq has the ability to secure itself militarily, economically, and religiously.
Democrats want to leave Iraq as soon as possible, but they want a timetable stated with a definite date of departure.
Other than that HUGE difference, the rest is the same old conservative/liberal squabbling; To abort or not to abort, that is the question. Should that guy and that guy be allowed to marry, each other? How high should the wall be?
Compared to the war in Iraq, all the other issues are moot.

Democrats are no different, only they hate the middle class the military and will raise tax's so high that people will not be able to afford to live. I say if you continue to do the two party dance stay republican at least they love the military and the U.S. and will not get us all nuked by practicing appeasement to the evil ones who wish to kill us!

We elect Republicans to limit our personal freedom and Democrats to reduce our personal freedom. Both parties are under the complete control of AIPAC and work to bring us to a state of servitude.
