Sounds like you have a virus on your hands, and if it shutdown your PC, then chances are good that it is deep in your system.

Maybe time to reformat.

You can also try the following:
> Disconnect your PC from the internet
> Clear browser history in Internet Options via Control Panel
> Go to My Computer folder
> Right-click on C: drive
> Select Properties
> Perform Disk Cleanup on the General Tab
> Click Tools Tab and select Check Now under Error-checking
> Place a checkmark in both boxes and click Start button
> You will be prompted with a message that the computer will perform procedure after you restart the computer, say OK
> Go to Start Menu and select Turn off computer, and then select Restart

Windows will reboot, and start the Checkdisk procedure.
Should take about 30-45 minutes, depending on how big your hard drive is, and how full it is too.

It will go through 5 stages, before completing. And after it has finished, it will BRIEFLY display whether or not your disk is OK.
Be ready to ready what it says.

If for some reason the process does not complete, and your computer restarts, then you definitely have a virus.

Good luck.
