Spend a weekend in Galveston, touring the old mansions, Moody Gardens Pyramids, walk on the beach, ride the ferry. You could go to the Kemah Boardwalk, there is a nice hotel there. Window shop at the stores and boutiques, try wine tasting at D'Vine Winery (adjacent to the boardwalk) and eat at one of the many fine restaurants. If you want to go north, stay at a B&B in Brenham or Round Top and tour the antique stores and the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory.

we do a variety of things. when we first moved here over a year ago we would go to the museums, the zoo, hit up the major malls, and go explore the towns around houston and towards the coast. we still go to the museums, but now we focus on festivals that are happening around the area and any other shows. this month and the next we are looking to go to the dewberry farm for the corn field maze, the renaissance fair, and go to old town spring for the xmas stuff. we also take a day trip to gruene for shopping or head to a state park for hiking or a picnic. we also take weekend trips to austin. if you dont already get it, get the chronicle. it is always loaded with ideas of things to do around the area and close-by.
