because they are cocky and think that the world revolved around them. because they are vain, self conceited as well as arrogant and do not know when to draw a line. many American students think that they are right, everyone else is wrong and God forbid if you contradict them especailly if you are from a different country! they have this idea and menatality of being a snob at which they are doing a pretty darn job at, as well as maybe that they have no manners! besides that i would have to say that most of them are rude because they can be and no one tells them anything therefore they can just walk on anyone as their mentality which is bull! they are rude because they want to be noticed and to get noticed you have to act like a jerk or mean and therefore that is how they do it. at my school there are a lot of mean people who act rude as though they rule the campus! people act rude when they have their own insecurities which they try to hide..oh yeah and pretty low self esteem if all they can do is be rude! if they cannot say anything nice then they should not say anything at all!

Some people are just rude. Not just Americans and not just college students. More than likely, the people were rude before they came to college. I am sure that there are rude college people where ever you are. Just focus on the good peoople and don't worry about the rude people. There are a lot more good people than rude ones if take a chance to know them.

I know what you are talking about. I've seen those kids over and over and everywhere on the campus. We called them, "Bunches" because they all bunched up with same Japanese buddies all the time. I've never seen them trying to interact with other students from other countries or Americans. I think they are shy and too afraid that no one will understand their English. Most of the Japanese 'bunches' who talk and play only with Japanese were the exchange students who only stay for a few months to study English. Their Japanese school was the sister college to mine in U.S. Other Japanese students I saw came to persuade their degrees in U.S. were more outgoing and made friends with Americans and other students from other counties. It was unfortunate that they didn't enjoy the time in U.S. with other people. I must wonder why the school even want to spend the money to be wasted. They attend the classes and go back to dorm room and play with other 'bunches' and drink in the evening. It's a shame. I hated these people because I was also a Japanese student who came to study (I didn't come from the same school as these kids, though.), and saw these people doing the exactly the same thing they do in Japan. The other Japanese students who came individually weren't interact with these "Japanese bunches" also, because it is just a waste of time. There are so many things you can learn from each other. Why you want to waste the perfect opportunity? I don't get it.

Could you go into details, because the last time I checked not just "American College Students" were rude... rudeness is everywhere... from the toddlers to the elderly in all countries, so stop trying to stereotype... and then maybe you just dont understand their grammer... just maybe

it's partly because they are so stressed out about college and everything, that they don't think before they do anything. also, they might think that they can be rude because they are in college and i guess that's quite an accomplishment, so "that would mean that they are better than most people" and can therefore treat them that way.

Maybe they just appear rude to you because you can't comprehend their proper grammar.
