If p is the price without tax, then the total price t is t = 1.25 p, so that p = t/1.25= 16/1.25= $12.80

Let P be the price before tax.

The price after tax is P + 25% of P.

Write an equation.

16 = P + .25P
16 = 1.25 P
P = 16/1.25
P = 12.8

Therefore, the selling price was $12.80.

but P = 25% from A
so A +0.25A = 16
A = 16/(1+0.25)
A = 12.8 $ and to be sure u add 25% taxis to get 16 so u r right

just find 25% of $16 then subtract that value from 16 to get the original cost.
on the calculator plug in
16 * 25 get an answer then divide that answer by 100
now do the subtraction 16 - the answer found above.

SP = RP+ tax
16 = RP + 25%RP
=1.25RP
So RP = 16/1.25
= 12.8
