My neice broke her arm (again). the first time she had a cast. She broke it tuesday afternoon and they took x-rays at the hospital that day. My sister had been trying to get her in to get a cast put on and she took her to an appointment today where they didnt even have her xrays to look at (diff place, diff city, but where she was refered to). She said the doctor was uncaring and said that it was broken but just barely in two places (how could he tell, he had no x-rays, just notes from what i was told) and said she didnt need a cast. Its just splinted. She has to wear her 6 year old sister clothes because it hurts her to wear her own. My question i guess is, is this right? shes 3, her arm is broken in two places, is it normal for a doctor to not put a cast on her? Is a splint good enough for this? my sister had medicaid, could that be a reason? If this is wrong, what can i do go get it corrected. I dont feel a 3 year old girl should be shunned by the system if this isnt right.

My sister does not abuse her children. The first time the arm broke she fell off a slide right onto her arm at a park. This time she was jumping on a trampoline and the neighbor boy fell on it. And no she isnt neglected either. My sister watches her like a hawk.

I got my sister to get a second opinion on Saturday (first doctor she was was fridaY)and this time they did say she needed a cast. The first doctor also wrapped her arm too tightly so it was partly cutting off her circulation. They reqrapped it and she will get a cast. It is sad that so many people had smart @$$ comments. Thanks to those who acutally took time and came across as sympathetic towards my neice.

Of course a three year old or anyone really should not be treated like that. If you have a break you have a break...i have broken my arm twice and both times they did put a cast on it. I would say yes she probably should have a cast on it to heal properly. So find a good bone doctor and get her treated properly for what they do now with her arm of course with her being so young and her bones are still in the developing stages will effect her all her life. Good luck!

ok. Since you have contacted the council the next port of call is Children's Social Services and ask for the person who deals with Nursery's. And also ask for the contact details of the Childcare Commissioning Team. Remember you may get nowhere with a complaint by telephone. All complaints should be written and sent by registered post. The most effective result will be to attend your MP, or Local Councillor's surgery and report the problem there. It will be dealt with immediately. My guess is the child attending with POP is a health and Safety issue. Could hurt oneself or another child unintentionally. May need extra staff supervision. 2nd Nursery places are at a premium. Miss an offer and it's missed!! Sounds like the Head has attitude and should not speak to the public in this fashion. Her/his boss may be the Education Authority if the Nursery is Not Private.

My older twin son broke his hand at 2 yrs old and yeah they put a half cast.....but only at my insistance ......they wanted to put a full cast......I said no I'll pray and i'll take care of him.....the doc said if not healed in 3 weeks a full cast was necessary well it healed in 3 weeks and he was fine but that was just one small bone in hand not the arm.......so the cast is warranted! Make sure she keeps her chin up is only temporary!

no it's not wrong. i broke my arm in 2cd grade and had a cast. the second time i re-broke it (called a fracture) they splinted me.
part cast/part ace bandage.

sounds like a hair line break in two spots. this is not uncommon after actually breaking the bone.

good luck.

you should go somewhere else for a second opinion. i say deffinatley put a cast on her. especially if it hurts! you don't want the poor thing to be miserable till it heals all the way! another thought you should consider is what if she accidentally does something else to worsen the problem? that dr. you went to who didn't take any x-rays sounds like a joke. if sh*t happens cuz of his neglegence, sue him!

I doubt a cast costs enough for a doctor to recommend against it. Ask the doctor, what do we look like.

I would go to a new doc. She should have a cast for sure.

I have to wonder why a 3 year old is having so many breaks in her arm? It sure sounds to me like she is being physically abused. I hope some medical person figures it out and reports her for the sake of her daughter.
