Most details of Democritus thought are today lost. His conception of an atom still lasts; actually today's models are wrong. Atom means (A: no, not, denial ; Tomein:Separate, split) unseparable, unsplitable, that cannot be reduced into simpler parts. In 1897, by separating electorns from orbiting the nucleus, it was discovered that what IN MODERN TIMES was considered to be atoms, were not. Democritus thought atoms as the elementary particles of the universe and nobody could "proove him wrong" yet.
Before Democritus their were many others, in many places of the world who evaluated the possibility of the corpuscular nature of the universe.

Democritus( 460-370 BC) suggested atomism in ancient Greece some 2500 years ago.

I think you won't find models on the atomic model suggested by Democritus , because it does not involve such complex ideas like the existence of protons, neutrons and electrons.

Researching on atomic models suggested by modern scientists will be far more interesting.

Start with this chronology:
1) John Dalton
2)J.J. Thomson
3) Ernest Rutherford
4) Niels Bohr
5) James Chadwick

Hi. According to this link : http://www.thebigview.com/greeks/democritus.html some parts are in pretty good agreement with today's outlook on atoms.
