In the Civil War they could have refused to fight against other Americans and claim the war was"illegitimet".
In the 1st. and 2nd. world war they could have refused to fight in a European war, etc, etc, etc.
Can't any soldier find any war " illegitimate" in order to avoid going into battle?

answerman--- So you would have every soldier vote before agreeing to go into battle?
Should he also vote to attack or retreat?---- to be in the front or the rear? Etc.?

Should the Pres. have to call you prior to making any decisions?

To go after Japan was the right thing to do. When we was attacked by Japan people waited in lines to join. We was ***** slapped by Japan. but Korea was a police action when most of still believed in the U.N. Vietnam was a mistake but an honest mistake we honestly thought we were stopping the threat of communism. The first Gulf war people bought that it was to help the people not to take the oil. Afghanistan was the right thing to do as we was going after the people that put planes into our buildings. But Iraq is a total disaster, never should have went, sure as hell should not of stayed. I wouldn't join the service to fight in Iraq, it is an evil war started by an evil man for the sole purpose of enriching himself. I don't know how others feel but that is the way I feel about it. But if we were attacked by N.Korea, I would be first in line. That is the way America is suppose to work.

That is a sorry statement. All of those wars had something to do with our freedom. This one doesn't. Terrorists aren't able to distroy the US. They couldn't barely hurt us if the media didn't insist on making sure they inflict as much panic and damage as possible. And our leaders should be trying to make the fear go away, not get people to rally around them by making them afraid.
So go away fearmonger. When our country is truely in harms way from a foriegn army, I will be there to help. I won't help you spread more pointless fear in the meantime.

you see America is not a nation America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.
It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship, or the United States as America with the intent of denoting a nation. Americans have a term for US citizens, we are called United Statesians by the rest of Americans, to say American with the intent of denoting citizenship or America when we mean the United States reflects poorly on our attitude towards the 70% of Americans that are not United Statesians.

Only after our government regains our trust. For the last couple of wars the reasons for war were questionable and the troops were sent into combat with poor planning and inadequate equipment.
In the wars you refer to, our nation went all-out in support of the troops; in this war, we were told to just go shopping to do our part to fight the terrorists.
Once our leaders have a few ethics you will see a whole different attitude, believe mt.

Well if they were smart they would refuse fighting - obviously it is not getting us anywhere. War - War - the more people we kill the more enemies you make - and therefore most people keep on dying. Sad state of affairs.
