I was thinking movies like darkness falls, hills have eyes, texas chain saw massacre. what are some other movies that are like this that have come out in the past few years?

There haven't been any good scary movies in the last 3-5 years. There have been a couple of creepy/disturbing ones though, but these are all small releases that you've likely not heard of.
Session 9 is excellent-creepy, moody, solid story and a wicked ending.
High Tension is quite good-very suspenseful.

I would recommend Silent Hill and/or The Descent. Both are worth seeing in my eyes. You might even consider The Grudge despite some people's varying opinions as to whether or not it's "scary". Oh, and definitely Saw I and II. Those are very good.

The Ring freaked me out, but the second onewas so dumb I couldn't finish watching it. The Grudge was pretty scary.

I would have to say, Saw 2. It is great to see in a dark room with no one else but you. It made me jump and scream!
