I am still partial to just listening to cds when I go to the gym or are in the car, but the new Nanos are pretty slick looking so it's tempting me. On the other hand, the video capability of the regular iPods is something I think I'd like as well. Unfortunately, I heard there are numerous problems with the hard drives on the video Ipods while there's battery problems with the nanos? I don't want to buy something if I will have problems with it in a year or less, if I buy one of these things I want it to last for years and years. Are these things not that durable? Also, if I go the video iPod route, isn't there a new generation coming out the first of 2007? So many questions I know, but I'd appreciate help from anyone knowledgeable about the ipods.

On the issue of iPod videos, the main problem with the hard-drives only occur when the iPod is shaken, example would be when you're exercising at the gym, so this may be of consideration for you. The hard-drives might skip and in extreme cases hang up and heat the iPod up. However the capacity of an iPod video is king, with 30GB up to 80GB!

With iPod Nanos, one gets the convenience of a much smaller package running on flash drives, meaning it won't skip no matter what happens. And yes, I have heard of the battery life of Nanos being a little compromised, but I'm sure it can't be too bad otherwise Apple wouldn't have been able to sell millions of Nanos. Capacities of Nanos run from 4GB to 8GB, so it seems the battery life is proportional to its' memory.

In the end, my advice is for you to buy whichever is more suited to your needs now because one can never stay ahead of technology for long. Even if you wait till 2007 for a new iPod, it won't be long before a new one comes out. Hope this helps you :)

I have the new ipod nano. I love it. It holds a charge for ever. I have had no problems with mine at all. My cousin has the big expensive iPod, and has no problems with it either. I'm sure if a problem does arise, you can just call the toll free number and get some help. I never listened to music much before cuz I just didnt have the money to buy CD's, but I use my ipod all the time. It really makes doing boring things like cleaning more fun. Plus, I dont have to waste my money on a cd with only one or two good songs on it. I can pick what I want, and take it anywhere. I plan on getting a hookup so I can use it with my car stereo, and those speaker thingys for your house you can plug your ipod into so you can listen to it.

I bought a 30 GB video ipod recently and i really like it, so far anyway. It is true that there are problems with the battery, but that is with all of the ipods. It says in small print on the box "Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced by service provider. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings." So how long will my battery last and how much will it cost to get battery replaced? i don't know. If you want to spend your money wisely I might wait a little while to see if Apple can fix that problem, if it is even possible. It just depends how long you are willing to wait for a better one to come out or how much you are willing to pay on possibly replacing your battery.

I know you are asking about Ipods, but I recently bought an MP3 Player directly from the manufacturer and I have since learned that if I had gotten it anywhere else I would have been paying anywhere from twenty to thirty dollars more than I should have been. Go to the manufacturer's website and see what the warranty is like and you will no doubt have your answer. It may be that they, like my MP3 manufacturer, offer a warranty or guarantee that the stores, like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or other electronics stores, don't or won't offer. That's always another option.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you do your research first.

Good luck and have fun no matter what you decide to do.

nanos break to easy and dont hold as many songs. either find a mini on ebay or wait untill something new comes out- this stuff is always being outdated.

You could buy one now if you want, but soon the prices will go down and they will come out with something better!

I think you should do like I did and buy a lesser Mp3 player, and wait for the technology to develop, and the prices to come down then buy the good stuff. This way you get the convenience now.
