Because your grades are a reflection of you and your work ethics. What you do in school represents who you are and what sort of worker you are. Plus, if you do well in high school you'll be better prepared for college and you may even get a scholarship to one. Another plus is that you feel better about yourself when you actually apply yourself and achieve your goals; getting good grades may help you achieve some of your goals....

The same reason salaries are important in the grown up world. Human beings are competitive and love to have 'rating systems' in order to compare themselves with their peers. In school it's more economical to give student grades for their hard work than it is to give them paychecks.

You grades, in turn give parents a means to track their child's progress through their learning career and for school administrators a means to seperate the wheat from the chaff in the student body. It also allows schools the ability to identify students that are not being challenged and students that may have special needs when it comes to an education.

Your grades will begin playing their largest role in High School when it comes to applying for scholarships and colleges. Most Post secondary schools want to produce successful students. A college that produces poor quality graduates is not as desirable and people are less likely to spend their money for an education at that school. Therefore colleges look for students that have already proven themselves successful in their scholastic career as a kind of insurance that they will make a good graduate from their college.

Eventually, this all translates into a good school record that will tell prospective employers that you are able to handle responsibility and complex tasks. In the end, a college graduate with a good transcript is more likely to be offered a good career by that high paying employer than, say, a high school dropout.

Hope that answers your question... now do your homework!
