SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU NEED TO EMPTY YOUR TEMP INTERNET FILES AND HISTORY. ALSO YOU NEED TO RUN AN AD AWARE SCAN GO TO LAVASOFT.COM AND DOWNLOAD AD AWARE SE PERSONAL ITS FREE AND THEN RUN A FULL SYSTEM SCAN THIS WILL REMOVE THE AD AWARE THAT IS LEFT KEEP RUNNING SCANS UNTIL THEY COME OUT CLEAN AND THEN DOWNLOAD THE GOOGLE TOOLBAR THIS WILL KEEP YOUR POP-UPS DOWN TO A MIN. RUN YOUR LIVE UPDATES ON WINDOWS AND FOR YOUR NORTON THE AD AWARE PROGRAM FROM LAVASOFT AND NORTON IS ALL YOU WILL NEED TO PROTECT YOUR MACHINE. YOU ALSO NEED TO CHECK IN INTERNET PROPERTIES AND GO TO SETTINGS THEN GO TO OBJECTS AND DELETE ANYTHING YOU DIDN'T HAVE IN THERE ORIGINALLY. IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN YOUR GOOGLE TOOLBAR YOU ALSO NEED TO DELETE THE ONES THAT YOU DO NOT USE.

It looks that you have some application on the background still opened, and that engages the virtual memory. Try before closing down pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to check if there is any applications still in operation, close all the windows before shut down.

An hour to boot up sounds excessive, do you clear your history and delete cookies and temp files, when is the last time you did defrag? I would start with these! Peace!
