LOL! Yahoo Answers is a popularity contest, and does not reflect a person's actual mental faculties.

I think a person's "best answer" percentage may be based partially on intelligence. But an intelligent answer can be dead on and mean nothing to the asker if not delivered with a sense of caring and a feeling of a shared experience. I try to answer questions that relate to things I have personally lived through. The answers I give tend to be life lessons I myself have learned not through books but through the actual experience. People want to feel that you really care about them when you answer the question and not just spouting off facts regardless of how correct they may be.
It also depends on they type of questions you choose to answer. Some of the ones I answer are not with the politically correct crowd right now and I know those answers will never be chosen as "best." I, however, feel as you do that I can't give an answer just because it's what the person wants to hear or to go along with the popular crowd. I also have to stand by my principles as well.
I really couldn't care less who or how many call me stupid.

It probably takes some degree of intelligence to work out how to give the sort of answers to get a high 'best answer' percentage, though the answers might be worth nothing at all......
It may well take a great deal more intelligence to give any sort of useful answer

No. People choose the answers they want to hear, whether they are useful or even correct. Some people are just more adept at telling people what they want to hear. If they were being judged by Rhodes scholars, I might say yes, but because they are being judged by people of all intelligence levels, all will receive a fairly even distribution of "best answers".

Nah. I spend too much time in the religion section disagreeing with people - that doesn't get you best answer ratings. If I just hung out in the math and physics sections doing kid's homework, I'd be at the top of the list. But I'm not going to encourage them to cheat.

No, the correlation is between the best answer percent and the ability to give the answer that the asker wants to hear.

No I don't. I believe that any answer whether stupid to some and smart to others doesn't really matter. The answers are peoples opinions and they are entitled to them. Remember opinions are like @$$holes, everyone has one.

No. I have 13% best answers . It's all biased here. You say something from your view but the person who chooses your answer may disagree with you so they don't choose it. There is nothing wrong with that.

No correlation. You can't control what answers are chosen at the best.

No, because someone could give a very wise answer but unless its what the questioner wants to hear they won't be impressed.
