yes you are having a problem you need to take your car to a mechanic and have them put a code reader on it to find out the source of the problem.

Check Engine Soon light usually turns on when one or more sensors that are connected to the engine computer is out of range. Some manufactures also have a light that reminds the driver that maintenance is due, and then it may be reset after the work is done. Check with your owners manual for details. Sometimes a loose gas cap or overfilling the tank may cause a sensor to go out of range, but you may continue driving, if the light goes out, then the problem may be corrected.If it stays on you will have to take it to the shop and get the system scanned to at least point the mechanic to possible causes.

Do not have any work done on your vehicle until you know what the problem is. Take it to Auto Zone, or a similar parts store, and have them read the OBD II code for you. What they will do is plug in a little hand-held device that will read the error code from you car's computer.
Next, write down the code. Ask the person if they know what the code means. If not, Google your code with the make and model of your car. With some research, you should be able to find out what the problem is and shop around for repairs and prices. This will save you money and time on your repair.

That little "Check Engine" light is the car's ONLY means of communicating to you that the car's computer has identified a fault or failure in one of the circuits or systems that it monitors.
If your Infiniti is older than 1995, you can gather the codes by following the procedure outlined here------>
http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-88a.htm
If your car is newer than 1996, you will need access to a code reader or a scanner.
You can then go here-------->
http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/index.php
...and determine what the failed circuit is.
But with this information, it is important that proper diagnostics are performed BEFORE repairs to avoid replacing unnecessary parts, and spending money and time and effort needlessly.
You can gather that information from the repair manual published for the year, and model.
If you cannot locate one or cannot afford one, try the library.
If this is all a bit strange, take your car to a REPUTABLE repair facility or the dealer for diagnosis and repair.
NOTE----->
Don't delay long, because the longer you drive the car with the light on, the greater possibility of causing more damage to other parts of the car, and in addition, with the "Check Engine" light illuminated, your car won't pass its emissions test.
Good Luck

You might just need an oil change or something, but you should have it checked out. It's usually on for a reason, however my Civic's check engine light has been on for 3 years, and I've had it checked, and turned off, and it keeps coming up that nothing is wrong with it, but the light keeps coming on.

I believe the light is programmed in the computer to come on at a certain time so your dealer can soak you for some extra bucks... a little side deal the manufacturers and dealers have going. I've had it come on in my car. I just unplugged my battery for 5 min. and plugged it back in. Light hasn't been on since. If there truly was a problem with my engine would the light not come back on? hmmmm
Just my lame conspiracy theory

Alot of times cars computers are programmed to turn that light on at a certain mileage to warn you of preventive maintenance due. Take it to the dealer and they will tell you what preventive maintenance needs to be done or why the light came on. It could be that a sensor is bad too.
Have them check. It's probably nothing and it's just a warning that you need things checked by the dealer,Like belts hoses, plugs wires etc to check their condition.

Maybe, maybe not! How many miles do ya have on the engine? Many vehicles are set to have the "check engine" light come on around 60,000 miles.
Check the engine oil and coolant levels to see if they are full. Also, check to see if the air filter needs cleaned or replaced. If everything is ok, have your mechanic reset the switch.
Best of luck to ya!!!!!

You may need to have your catalytic converter changed. You need to take it to a mechanic to check it. If it is the catalytic converter you need to expect to pay about 300 to 400 dollars to replace it. You can also take it to an auto parts store, Like if you have an AUTO ZONE , they will do a diagnostic test on it to determine whats wrong and they don't charge for it.
