Shi'ah muslims think that the descendents of the prophet Muhammad must rule the muslim group even as Sunni muslims think that the nearest attendant to the prophet must rule the muslim group. They fought and the Sunni gained developing the more than a few muslim dynasties. Over time Shi'ahism will probably be perverted by way of "prophets" who declare to have direct reference to ALLAH. AKA twelver Shi'ahism. Sunni will probably be perverted by way of kings who believe they understand larger than ALLAH. Shi'ah and Sunni are among eighty and ninety% the equal, the relaxation is the politics of rulership and the mild perversion of the lessons of the prophet Muhammad (I'd move into how badly the stuff the prophet mentioned is corrupted for private vigour however that'd be an practically under no circumstances finishing rant). I'll investigate up later if there demands extra explanation.

No difference at all. And this answer may startle some. Theologically, both believe in the same fundamentals.. That is, Belief in Allah; all the Angels(Europeans have quite different concept on Angels); All the Holy Books; All the Holy Prophets; in the certainty of the Hereafter. Their Quran is exactly the same. The differences are traced to culture. The Iranians accepted the Faith of the Arab Prophet, but declined to accept the Arab culture. Thus, the differences were politicised in course of history. Marriages between Shia and Sunni are valid. They can and do pray together at several places like Makkah and Madina. So, where IS the difference?

not much. the fighting was initiated first by the British in order to divide the muslims and so make it easier for the British to rule them, during the british colonial era. now, its mainly the US, the uk and others that do this in order to create instability in the region and make it easier to control and illegally rule the middle east. it is also giving the US an excuse to stay in Iraq. its very sad and i wish it wasnt true, but unfortunately it is.

It began with a dispute over who should succeed Muhammad as leader of the Muslims; the differences are just in key tenets of their doctrine, just as Protestants and Catholics differ in certain areas.

It goes back to the Caliphate. Sunnis say the first 4 caliphs were so and so and the Shiites say "Oh dear me no, it was who ja ma flip". This is why they kill each other. God is just so great, ain't he?..
