HIV the virus which causes AIDS, more than likely either escaped from a biological weapons laboratory, or was created due to incredible human incompetence.
They know thee is an SIV, in simians, but how this virus jumped from simians to man? Either as part of a biological weapons experiment (creating zoo-tropic diseases is all the vogue, with one of the goals of bio-weapons research of the 70's and 80's being creating a disease which attacked the immune system), or as some of the vaccines sent to Africa from the US are grown in monkey parts...a contaminated batch, with no one checking the outgoing product, or deliberately ignoring it, would also create something like this...
So take your pick, or just figure that it's Gaia's way of performing population control. It really don't matter...How something happened really doesn't matter, all that matters is, what is occurring right now, and what is being done about it...
