We are creating a haunted maze for a fundraising event. We want it to be really scary for the kids (up to 14 years old) but not too gory so the parents won't freak out. We don't want to spend thousands of dollars on crazy animatronix and stuff. Know of a website with discount props and decorations or have some do-it-ourself iseas? please help! (helpful ideas only please)

I went to a haunted house once that was pretty scary. They had a tunnel and as we came out someone started up a chainsaw (with no chain) and it scared me so much I fell to my knees! It was a lot of fun. People jumping out in different places with masks would probably be good and maybe add some people chasing them or following them...I don't know just a few ideas

I don't know if kids would "get" this or not, but you know how they say that when a spirit is present, there's a cold spot in the room? One haunted house I went in, they had a concealed fan blowing, and boy, it gave me the shivers!

They also had plastic egg cartons on the floor -- I think it was supposed to sound like bones crunching.

Finally, underlighting is scary. If you have a mannequin or a person, have the flashlight right under the chin shining upward. If you tape a little red or blue cellophane on the flashlight lense, it gives it an even eerier effect.

I think eerie sounds & special lighting really set the mood. Check out this website for a lot of tips!

don't forget a witch and her cauldron... dry ice (can usually buy at baskin robins) and a little water creates the foggy smoke for her brew, make sure the witch is someone that can give a good cackle lol

Create boxes they still their hands into such as brains (cooked spaghetti with little water) and eyeballs (peeled grapes). Lots of black lights, strobe lights and spider webbing!!
