Actually, it was partially right. Oranges are traded as a commodity. Basically when you purchase a commodity future, you gain a "voucher" to buy oranges at that price in the future.

For example, If you buy a orange future at the current price of 20$, and in a few months the price is 40$. You could buy oranges for 20$ than immediately sell for $40 for a big profit.

Very hard market to predict however and you must have a lot of money to invest in it. Most brokerage firms have a 100k min. to invest.

What? You mean you don't know? I trade that stuff all the time and it goes fast. You have no idea the kinds of stuff people will do for just a little bit of that orange freeze. Just last week some lady tried to trade her baby for a pint.

I think what is really traded is the oranges that go into frozen concentrated orange juice. If you listen carefully they are talking about the orange crop itself and not the juice.
