As a beginner, I would recommend just going with the acoustic.
An acoustic guitar will have a good tone quality, but the electric , well they all sound alike.

Yamaha makes a good acoustic and when you pick your guitar, no matter what make it is, be sure to check the fingerboard and see how it frets. If you have to press down real hard to fret a cord, it is harder to play and your callouses will be real tough.

You can always purchase an electric clamp on pickup after you decide to stay with it. With an electric, you also must also consider you will need an amplifier.

If you go to a guitar store, ask the salesman to allow you to try different ones and see how you like the tone.

Happy picking to you,

Darryl S.

Take a guitar playing friend to a music store. There are so many brands and models that it is best to get your hands on them, learn a little about guitars, and make a better decision. You sometimes run across sales on certain models. There are so many things to consider....talk to the sales people, too. If you want a beginner's acoustic/electric, it sounds like you might not want to spend a whole lot. Unless you are rich, look at the imported ones. Sometimes you'll get lucky at a yardsale, but it really helps to take someone with you who knows guitars.

Fender or even Gibson. My first guitar was a black and white gibson with a red guitar strap that has a white lightning bolt design on it. It's electric.

look for quitar that the strings are easy to push as beginners will have sore fingers till they get used to playing.
over time the finger ends get harder and it will not hurt.
at this time learning is more important than quitar quality.
if you are interested i can teach a little to you every day by learning from ear.

Baby Taylor. It's quality and you can sell it if you don't keep up your playing.
