tough exterior(and I thought it would pass) , but ALL her clothes are black. She is not a bad kid, but I am starting to get worried. Should I be worried?

My niece did the same thing when she was 13. A year later, she started dressing normally. And she's turned out fine. It's just that--an exterior.

I had a similar situation with my step mom. I knew certain things drove her absolutely nuts so of course as long as they didn't hurt me I was enjoying the annoyance I caused her. For example, she hated when people had multiple ear piercings and particularly if each ear didn't have the same quantity of piercings...so I have 3 holes on the left and 2 on the right. She also hated long dangly earrings...so you can only guess how much fun that fashion fad was for me.

It'll pass and just be tolerant - try not to make any negative comments about it even if it takes every ounce of strength in your body. Focus on trying to improve your relationship and worrying about the more important things like whether she's involved with alcohol, drugs, sex or other dangerous activities. If she's not then be supportive and encourage her to continue being a good kid. Keep in mind that she may also have a self image problem...if she's weight conscious she may feel black is slimming or if she's just not very confident she may feel it's a way of hiding in the shadows. Chances are it's nothing but a fashion fad.

If you think she would go for it, you might take her for a special wardrobe/make-up/hair makeover...something along the lines of the TLC program "What Not to Wear". It could be a good bonding experience for the two of you and if you have an impartial 3rd party to assist with clothing selection she may be receptive to making some changes.

Good luck.

Speaking as a former all-black clothing teenager I can tell you that it's just a phase. She's only 17. There's no other time in her life when she'll be able to dress however she wants. The black clothing will disappear as soon as she wants a job outside of retail or food service. Trying to talk her into changing her appearance will only make her dress that way longer, so she can feel like she stood up for who she is.

It's not a tattoo. It's not a nose ring. It's just clothing, and in a few years it'll all be in the Goodwill bin. Teenagers just want to be themselves and be unique. That's nothing to worry about.

I went by way of a all-black-outfits section in my young ones (lower back interior the Nineteen Sixties!). maximum young ones do at some time or yet another. She'll come around to something else. If she's doing the different components of the goth concern (the corpse-like stark makeup, the medicine, the alienation) then you definitely've have been given greater clarification for subject. yet do no longer subject approximately merely the clothing.

Shes 17, so its a little too late to do anything honestly. You can only hope you raised her to decided against any of the negative peer pressures out there. She could feel unattractive--so if anything I would be worried about her confidence level and just making sure you tell her how beautiful you think she is--in and out. Black clothes are slimming, a way to hide, and just not be noticed, usually due to lack of confidence. Im sure shes fine and this is an extremely akward stage in her life---she may grow out of it and she may not, but I know many women in their mid 40s who are successful with tattoos and wear black all weekend. She will be fine.

It's a phase. Some teenagers are more self-concious than others. That's why they try to cover themselves in black, or wear really big clothes or give a tough appearance. Anyway, before worrying you have to pay attention to other signals (performance at school, eating habits, sleep habits, kind of friends, etc)

its the latest trend these days for kids to act goth... i use to be like it to id only wear black... but it could be even deeper. she may be depressed. what ever u do dont accuse her of anthing that is the worst thing that u can do. my best friend was all in to the black cloths fully she would not even wear coloured socks, we all grow out of it if its just the passing fase... take he shopping spoil her for a day and buy her some couloured cloths. but let her pic them out. try to guid her in the direction of colour

No u shouldn't be worried. If anything u should be cool with it. The one thing that she would hate the most is for u to be the one who says,"u should put some more color in your closet." or something like that. It's her way of just being herself. If anything u should get her something she might want.
