I went through a all-black-clothes phase in my teens (back in the 1960s!). Most teens do at some time or another. She'll come around to something else. If she's doing the other aspects of the goth thing (the corpse-like stark makeup, the drugs, the alienation) then you've got more reason for concern. But don't worry about just the clothes.

No I don't think you need to be worried but look at your question ... and instead of asking us why not ask her? Of course you could always go on the offensive and start wearing black. Or take her with you when you go shopping for new clothes and ask her to advise you on what colours would suit you best then ask her why she doesn't wear those colours herself. I'm sure it's just her way of expressing her individuality. You have said you're her stepmother so did her mother die or was there a separation? If it happened at the time she started wearing black, it could simply be her way of mourning for that lost relationship.

NO don't worry, she just a kid! i still wear all black most days and a hint of goth still prevails in my silver jewelery.... I'm now 36 (on Monday) i have brought up three boys humanly who are 18, 12, and 2 i went to university and have a medical career, my own home and car, i have bank accounts and credit cards, i attend school plays and parents evening, i enjoy salsa dancing and loads of other normal hobbies.... the point I'm making is... she just growing up... just because she makes choices you don't agree with or understand don't mean she wont grow up to be a decent grounded member Of society!
relax as you said she not a bad kid.....

No, she will grow out of it.
Just like adult woman wear black for the Slimming affect...she is wearing it to HIDE.
It will take someone she truely wants to like her like a man before she will start making changes. I knew a girl like that...and she ended up being a school teacher and is the most loving person after she found her man. She dressed very classy and you would of though she came from beverly hills as stylish as she has become.
Let her be. No pressure..She will come into her own when she is ready

Hey if your money car and house appliances aint missing and she aint pregnant!! if she is not on dope or alcohol and havent being arrested..I think you can live with her black clothes it could be just a fashion statement or just that she really enjoys wearing black.. just let her be and watch out for other more sereous things like withdrawing and crying sleeping too much those are things to worry about, kids are like that they express themselves in their own way I prefer black clothes could be piercing or tattooes believe I have five tattoes in my young years LOL.. believe me it could be worst, just let her know you are there if ever she needs someone to talk to,let her know you wont judge her and will try to help her in anything she will need, talking to teens is very hard but it can be done, they hate when you repeat things over and over to them just say it once she will hear you and keep it to her self until is time to come to you... trust your self and her. good luck.

Nope. She's a Goth and it's a form of individual expression. Black clothes, hair, makeup, everything. It's who she is underneath the statement that matters and you know the kind of person that she is right? You shoudn't worry uselessly.

Talk to her. Communicationg is always key. Since you want to know what's going on, ask her. Find out what else she's in to besides the black clothes. It may be nothing.

Teens like to experiment with their look. It may just be she's found what she is most comfortable in. The "goth" look is surprisingly "in". As long as she is still being herself, no worries.
